Mirrors (Alexandre Aja, 2008) — Kiefer Sutherland in horror movie about... mirrors

IMDB | Trailer | August 15, 2008

I saw the trailer for this in the theatre (before The Strangers) and it looked wholly unappetizing. For a second I even thought I even though Paula Patton was Halle Berry, which was another reason I thought this movie would suck.

But... it's done by Alexandre Aja. I haven't seen his remake of The Hills Have Eyes but I thought High Tension was very good. Also: Jack Bauer.

So I'm torn... If this gets good reviews, and I'm incredibly bored, I may see it.

Cool another remake of an Asian horror film about a murderous female ghost.

The original sucked and this looks wholly different, plus I like Aja and Bauer so we'll see.

Trailer looks weak, but since it's Aja (and Keifer!) I am definitely in.

Looks like Poltergeist III.

Which is fine, because I actually liked Poltergeist III.

New red band trailer on IGN looks like it's gonna be pretty gory. I haven't been a big fan of the Asian horror remakes so this still looks like a rental to me.

Great. Two people mention it, no one links it.

Using my JFGI powers, I find:

I didn't even know this was a remake. Oh well. After the ass-kicking he gave me with Hills Have Eyes and High Tension (minus the ending) I'll watch anything Aja throws up on screen. Can't wait for Pirahna 3-D!

More on the jaw ripping scene that has gotten so many people's attention:

This is the best movie ever. Keifer Sutherland is aweesome. I could never imagine him in such an atmospheric role until now. This is the best holdover to 24.

Well, to be fair, you really can't know that until you see it.

Early word from some insider friends is that it's shit, but I'll still see it because I want to support R-rated horror. That, and I'm a fan of Aja's work.

Can't wait to see this. My only gripe is that anytime I see Kiefer I know I'm gonna think of Jack Bauer. And we all know Jack Bauer could fuck anything up, including supernatural beings.

Great review. Quite disappointed as I liked both of Aja's prior efforts.

I really liked the review as well (as I do most of Brian's) except for the spoiler that:
Spoiler:
Amy Smart apparently dies during the jaw ripping scene. It's been on so many trailers that it's hard to not know which scene that would be, and I certainly didn't think she'd be a goner there. I would have preferred not to know that point, but it doesn't sound like I'll be out to see it anyway.
