Now that Blu-Ray has "won".....

When will the titles available only on HD DVD become available on Blu-Ray? That aren't currently available. The first two titles that come to mind are "Red Dragon" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age".

A simple answer to a simple question. Universal and Paramount have not announced a thing. No dates. All we have are "insiders" saying "just wait" and "soon" for the past few weeks/months. There is not much else to say on the subject. Even if, I wouldn't count on Red Dragon or Elizabeth being the first title Universal pushes out. It will be the big potential sellers like Transformers, Serenity etc. by Universal and/or Paramount.

Trust me, I'm sure a big thread will be here titled "Universal/Paramount announced titles on Blu-ray!!!!!!!!!111111" when it happens

I'm very much interested in Universal's and Paramount's official timeline for BD releases, but I've not seen anything posted as yet on any of the major HD sites.

However, I'm quite looking forward to owning Batman Returns on BD in July.

Thank you. Now, was that so hard? I've been around here for a while. Trust me when I say I did a search first before posting. And you know how great the search engine is here. Being an older member than me you should I just wanted to know what, if any, plans there were for ANY Universal titles. Not just the one's I mentioned. Sure, I know the majors come first. And I'll get those too. Trust me. Cheers.

No, not hard at all. But a quick look anywhere (Amazon for instance) would show you no Universal/Paramount releases coming.

I know that. But for the most part, Amazon is the last site to post a release date or news on future titles. You hear about news on sites like this or DVDActive (or the like).

I think you'll be waiting longer than July for that title

Not to be mean, but there have been many threads asking this very same thing. I think some people are tired of seeing it. Though, I understand, you didn't find it (such a great search engine by the way..lol), so you assumed it wasn't asked. I'll blame it on the search engine.

Some of them will depend on tie-in opportunities. I expect Universal to do something with the Mummy movies to coincide with the upcoming sequel. It's probably just a question of whether they release them when it's in theaters or on video. Also, I would not be shocked to see Paramount hold off on Transformers until the sequel next year.

Other titles could even be held for completely new releases (alongside new DVD editions), with new masters and/or extras. For instance, if they ever decide to do a long-overdue special edition of The Breakfast Club, it could get held for that rather than having the existing release ported over as is.

Girls, girls. You're both pretty. Now both of you go sit in your separate corners until you can play civilly.

Perhaps you should contact the studios directly.

however the wait for titles that didn't sell well initially - has me wondering if a bluray edition will indeed get released (i.e, Forbidden Planet, Grand Prix, Mutiny on the Bounty)

Never, just buy the HD DVDs. They're cheaper anyway.

The generic timeline I've been seeing is May/June for when we'll see Uni/Par titles on shelves. I believe titles are certainly in production. Paramount has pissed off lots of people, so I'm assuming they will wait until they are sure they'll have x amount of titles ready before they announce. I serioulsy doubt they want to pull a Fox and tell us 20 titles are coming in the next 2 months only to delay them.

Universal has never, ever, produced in BD, so it should not be surprising that they are quiet. Toshiba only pulled the plug 2 months ago, so maybe both companies are quiet as a courtesy.
