So, obviously the specs on the A3 are better. What are the main differences?

I've done absolutely no research on any of these things. I'd assume a 3rd gen is better than a 2nd gen, but I'm probably wrong. That's why I'm asking what the differences are, boss.

Too bad I've solely become a bluray supporter. Pretty good deals though

No difference. The A2 is superior if you're running the audio through an optical cable, but if you're using HDMI, then they're essentially the same machine.

Actually TBH the A2 is better if sound matters to you. They really nerfed the sound capabilities of the A3. I would get the A2.

I own 2 A2's
1 A20

They both work great.

How is the A2 better than the A3 if you're running it through HDMI?

it's not. in fact, the A3 is superior if you have a 7.1 setup.

How can they expect people to buy at those prices? The A3 was $200 at Best Buy all Thanksgiving week. I wouldn't expect another $99 sale on the A2, but I would have expected a $150 price point and $200 for the A3. Of course 5 movies = about a $100, but still.

Essentially, it is. If you get five HD DVDs priced at lease $20 each, the player is $100. If you get five close to $30, then the price approaches $50. This is an excellent deal.

So, if you don't have 7.1 set up with receiver with HDMI, the H2 would be plenty sufficient, right?

The A3 was $200 at Best Buy...this one is $299 with 5 free movies instantly. Not an AWESOME deal, but decent.

I own both players and the differences are very minor. I think the A2 looks better and it is definitely the better deal at $199.

i bought the A2, at the beginning of November when it was $99, Does anyone think if i take the receipt in, that they might let me pick up 5 free HD movies on this sale? Is it even worth a shot?

Its $199, not $99. I doubt they will let you match the offer considering you paid half of the now price.

the vast majority of people are not tracking the prices of these players constantly, like this board does. just because a couple of very limited time sales had these players for less does not mean they won't sell at $198 and $299. plenty of people will buy them, trust me. in fact, i may take the opportunity to pick up an A2, if i can find one.

I thought $200 was the across the board A3 price. I feel bad because I sent a guy I met in Frys to Best Buy for it the other day. He got sticker shock when checking out the XA2 and A35 which was all they had.

At my local Walmart, I'll be lucky if the cashiers even know about the 40 gig sale, let alone blowing their minds asking about the 80.
