The Killers - Sawdust 11/13/2007

Anyone getting this? Sounds like a good compilation of alternative tracks.

1. Tranquilize
2. Shadowplay
3. All The Pretty Faces
4. Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf
5. Sweet Talk
6. Under The Gun
7. Where The White Boys Dance
8. Show You How
9. Move Away
10. Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll
11. Who Let You Go?
12. The Ballad of Michael Valentine
13. Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town
14. Daddy's Eyes
15. Sam's Town (Abbey Road Version)
16. Romeo and Juliet
17. Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Remix)

Sawdust includes "All The Pretty Faces" (which was the b-side of "When You Were Young"); two movie soundtrack tunes, "Shadowplay" (a Joy Division cover from Control, Anton Corbijn's biopic of Ian Curtis) and "Move Away" (from Spiderman 3); as well as a cover of Kenny Rogers & The First Edition's "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town" (written by Mel Tillis)

The collection will also contain songs which weren't completed for Hot Fuss and Sam's Town. The Killers recently went back into the studio to finish the tracks, including "Tranquilize" featuring Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Lou Reed.

isn't a little early in their career to use this as one of their albums for the label?

Not when they have so many b-sides. I doubt their label minds, having one of their top selling artists with a "new" album in time for Christmas shopping. It's on my list.

They massacred Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits. I heard it on the Live at Abbey Road show. Simply dreadful.

Liked a few tracks off their first cd, but thought Sam's Town was pretty awful.

I can't see how. The songs are practically the same.

I didn't care for Sam's Town but absolutely loved their first CD as well. The songs didn't sound the same to me. This is probably a "wait and listen" for me.

I was sort of down of Sam's Town initally, but now I like it better than Hot Fuss. It's a solid album.

I'll be picking this up day one. Can't wait.

This is a pretty good collection, but it's not really a complete compilation if you're looking for non-album cuts, because it's missing 2 Hot Fuss b-sides (Get Trashed, Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself) and a Christmas track (A Great Big Sled). They also have another Xmas tune coming out (Don't Shoot Me Santa).

And I love Sam's Town.

I wonder if it'll be better than the version Cake did of this. Cake is one of my favorite bands, and it's on their B-side collection I think, but I don't really care for the song all too much.

Same here. Sam's Town didn't do a lot for me when I first heard it and now it rivals Hot Fuss for me. I think I wanted Sam's Town to be Hot Fuss Part 2 and it wasn't.

Which isn't really fair to them. You have to expect bands to venture out and try new things ala Neil Young.

Read My Mind might be my new favorite song of theirs.

Hot Fuss is a instantly likable album. Sam's Town takes some time to love.
