What are some good UK/Euro pop/rock CDs that haven't been officially released in the U.S. yet? I'm thinking of more recent stuff from the last ten months or so, like:


Captain - This is Hazelville
(They've been compared to Prefab Sprout. They're not nearly as good, but this debut album shows promise)



The Long Blondes - Someone to Drive You Home
(Can't believe this hasn't gotten a U.S. release yet)



The Rifles - No Love Lost
(I think these guys are way better than The Fratellis)



Unkle Bob - Sugar and Spite
(Cool acoustic pop)

AFAIK there are a bunch of Manic Street Preachers albums which have never been released in the US.

The Pipettes - We Are The Pipettes

Rumor mill is that the CD will be getting a late-August release date here in the States with additional tracks found on the band's numerous EPs.

Robbie Williams' last two albums, Intensive Care and Rudebox, were both good albums, but neither got a US release because Williams gave up on cracking the states

I like that album, catchy stuff!

Ginger (solo stuff from the singer/songwriter of the Wildhearts; kind of like Silver Ginger 5 but not as much of a "party")
Clam Abuse (warped solo stuff by Ginger)
Supershit 666 (also includes members of the Hellacopters & Backyard Babies; very loud & aggressive)
Howling Willie **** (demented country type music)

I have a few suggestions for some older artists. The last few Lightning Seeds albums were never released in the U.S. One of the best Brit Pop bands ever IMO. You should definitely pick up:



Also Texas, while Scottish, have been very successful in England and a great little pop/rock band. More pop obviously the latter part of their career:

Amazon.com also gave it this review. Keep in mind this was probably written five or so years ago. Because Depeche Mode are still very much at their commercial peak. Maybe not singles chart-wise in the US. But album and concert sales are still very strong. Especially the latter.

With Depeche Mode and Erasure no longer at their commercial peak, Mute's Daniel Miller has found a new cash cow with this pop trio from the U.K. Think Human League as rewritten by Bacharach & David, then spin catchy fare like "On My Own," the gloriously pre-fab "From This Moment On," and the dramatic "Sorrow Town." There's a somewhat anemic quality to these songs, but that's the odd charm of blue-eyed WASP soul and Peach Union has the plastic fantastic formula down cold. --Jeff Bateman

Definitely agree with The Rifles and The Pipettes. I'd also add Lucky Soul's 'The Great Unwanted.' If you like The Pipettes, check out the female fronted Lucky Soul - they have a great 60's female pop sound.

OK, now I *have* to get the Rifles now! Just read on Amazon: 2006 album produced by The Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie [The Zutons, The Coral].

Client which Sarah is in now.

Although I guess they've been around a while now, but they are touring soon.

Um, The Magic Numbers, but I think they've been put out here by Columbia, just not widely known.

I'm bumping this up as this is a thread that needs more love.

As per my original post in this thread:



The American release of The Pipettes' debut album was not only re-produced from the ground up (the tracks sound better than ever now), but also throws on three brand new songs for good measure. For one who already purchased the original UK album and the American EP (which had it's four tracks taken directly from the UK releases), the American release of the album happens to be a wonderul companion piece to everything I own regarding the band.

It still upsets me that neither of Charlotte Hatherley's two albums have made it stateside just yet:





iTunes had Grey Will Fade up briefly on their US online store, but quickly took it off (it's the only way I was able to have a decent sounding copy of that album). They also had three Charlotte Hatherley EPs, but now, only one remains.

Speaking of Hatherely, Ash's latest album, Twilight of the Innocents, still hasn't made it's way to the states yet either.



And now for two exceptions to the rules of this thread, for a Russian singer with an Oakland based (exception one) backing band, Persephone's Bees just got dumped by Sony (not the first time this has happened with an indie band with a huge cult following -- Sony did the same to The Go! Team). It's still easy to find a copy of Notes From the Underworld (exception two), but I'm sure as time progresses, it'll be hard to find an actual CD of the release. The band is now releasing the album indepedently (either you can buy the vinyl online or electronically via iTunes).

Thanks for the update on the Pipettes. I had no clue that the album was redone for the US market.

Kate Nash - Made of Bricks I'm quite enjoying this album. Not sure if it will be getting a domestic release. The most obvious comparison is Lily Allen, I'd say.

Second the praise for the Charlotte Hatherley albums - both are fantastic, and "The Deep Blue" is one of my favorites to come out this year.

A couple of my favorites from last year never saw US releases:



Duels - The Bright Lights and What I Should Have Learned signaled the return of the once mighty Nude records - though I don't think that ended up going very far. Anyways, sounded exactly what a Nude band in 2006 should've sounded like, and gave us the single of the year in 'Animal'.



Ladyfuzz - Kerfuffle - Unfortunately they called it quits at the end of last year, but not before leaving behind a very exciting debut. I had flashbacks to the first time I heard the Sugarcubes all those years ago the first time I heard 'Bouncy Ball', and if the album as a whole isn't quite as strong as the single, it's hard to blame em. They'll be missed...by me, at least.

I've also got this on order, just came out this past week in the UK:



Jakobinarina - The First Crusade. The singles have been great so far - particularly 'This Is An Advertisement' - so here's to hoping they can keep it up for a full-length.

it was released last year but it's an album I really liked, they're kind of like The Rapture, but more new wave-ish.
