Twin Peaks....Wow Just Wow....

Well, this week I have re-discovered my love for Twin Peaks the TV show..I can't believe how incredible this series was! I was a semi-fan back in the 90's but with the complete series now on dvd I have become a big time fan of the show..I am just about 1/2 done season 2, I know the later episodes get somewhat weird but this show is one of the best TV shows ever! Comments welcome! Off now to have a nice cup of joe and another episode!

Watch out! The twin horrors that are the James/Evelyn storyline and the Diane Keaton-directed episode are on the horizon to test your faith in the show. Be strong!

Seriously, though, it is a great show, and, like you, I've been enjoying returning to it with S2's release (I haven't seen the complete series from beginning to end since the last marathon on Bravo).

So far I've only seen the pilot and the first season. I got season two in the mail today and hope to watch it over the course of the month inbetween school work. I can't believe that after four-years of waiting I'll finally be able to see how everything ends, and watch the movie!

ABC raped the hell out of this golden goose, but it was still a groundbreaking program, and without it, there would never have been "X-Files," "Sopranos" or "Lost."

Personally, I thought those were both a walk in the park compared to the ongoing, what-in-God's-name-were-they-thinking Civil War storyline. That one was downright excruciating. I watched Season 2 this past weekend, I am SO glad they finally (FINALLY!) released it! Can't believe it took so long.

I'm right with you, that's all I've seen as well. I desperately need to go out and grab the second season set. Anyone care to loan me some money ...

Congrats and welcome to the club. The last time I watched the complete series was in Austin a couple of years ago. The Alamo drafthouse had a marathon showing with two Twin Peaks cast members in attendence - Kimmy Robertson (Lucy Moran) and Phoebe Augustine (Ronette Pulaski).

When this show was first on TV it blew my mind. Watching the pilot is something I'll never forget and I really enjoyed the whole first season. A couple of years ago I made my wife watch the first few episodes and it didn't seem nearly as cutting edge as it did back then. Still, great show for it's time.

I finished up season 2 this week for probably my 5th or 6th complete viewing of the show. The last time was nearly 4 years ago (watching season 2 in .avi format!) and I have to say the big dry spell didn't seem as long this time as it has in the past. Now just to rewatch FWWM sometime this week and I'll be all set with Twin Peaks until I get the hankering to watch it again (probably this summer when primetime TV turns to crap).

So am I right that if one has never seen this show and never bought the first season, one is screwed?

Why is S1 out of print?

I watched the movie and the most of the first season...and was not the least bit interested in it.

I've thought about giving it another chance and renting it, since so many people seem to love it.

Starting with the movie is a big mistake. It's meant to be seen after you've seen the entire series. I am not saying your experience might have changed if you watched the series first then the movie, but it might have.... But then again, I am a David Lynch fan so I am biased in that regard.

Really? Oops. I thought it came out before the series?

That might have been part of the problem.

I could start over again with S1 since I don't remember any of it. It's been a few years.

Pilot
Season 1
Season 2
Fire Walk With Me

That is the only order to watch the show in.

Ok, I remember now. The Pilot was sold separately...correct?

If that's the case I did watch the Pilot and then S1. I was thinking the Pilot was "the movie".

(Sorry for getting a bit off topic).

S1 was released by Anchor Bay, not Paramount, and I believe Anchor Bay doesn't have the rights to keep it in print.

If I remember right, TVShowsonDVD reported a rumor that Paramount may put out a complete series box set within the next year.

It was Artisan, which is now Lions Gate, and they no longer have the S1 rights. Paramount owns the rights to the entire series (although the pilot is still iffy).

I'm going to rewatch this from the start but will insert The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer by Jennifer Lynch between the seasons.

While the Laura Palmer Diary served me as great wanking material when I was in 8th grade, the Agent Cooper book was a fantastic read. I've even re-read it over the past few years. I'd urge any new fans of the show to hunt through the used bookstores to seek it out. Well worth it.

You are right. For some reason, I always wind up interchanging the two.

I found both books interesting though by no means required reading. Definitely gives some cool background on Cooper and fills in some of the gaps on Laura. Though, nitpickers be ware, much like FWWM vs. The series, there are some continuity differences between the books and series.
I need to find my copies, I think they're still in my old bedroom at my parent's house.

FWWM would have started with Cooper investigating the Teresa Banks murder, as it fit the backstory created in the My Life, My Tapes book. However since MacLachlan didn't want to have that much to do with the movie it had to be re-written.
