The Illusionist 2 Disc Dvd --------> 6/19/07

DVD Journal reports that the Illusionist will reappear as a 2 Disc DVD on June 19th. I should have known coming from Fox.

I waited expecting something like that. I held off on the DVD for now even though I love this movie. I really want it on Blu-ray, but Fox does a really shitty job on Blu-rays making them bare bones and overpriced. I may just go for the 2 disc DVD instead in June.

Figured as much... fortunately I picked it up cheap/used from BB but overall this constant double dipping from everyone is making me less and less likely to actually buy anything anymore

I really enjoyed this movie and the 2 discer is tempting. Although by the time it comes out, you might be able to catch the single disc on sale for $10 or less somewhere. I'll probably just wait for that to happen and buy the single.

Yes! Glad I didn't get the first release although I did not see this coming.

Well, I'm not biting anymore. No more double dipping anymore for me.

I too am glad I just rented the first release, even though I didn't see a double-dip coming.

Same here. I still have yet to see it although I was a fan of The Prestige.

Even though it was Fox, I still didn't expect a double dip from this movie. Depending on the features, I might pick it up.

Exciting, albeit fairly unexpected, news. Especially this quick! I picked up the initial copy for pretty inexpensive, so the double-dip won't be too hard a bullet to take.

Ugh, just bought it cheap too recently. The double dip would have to have a ton of features for me to get it again. Really dug the movie but not enough for a few measly extras.

Is The Illusionist the type of blockbuster movie that even merits a 2 disc SE?

The same could be said of ANY dvd. What the studios are telling people is this: "Don't buy our dvds until six months to a year after the initial release unless you want to up our profit margin a bit." Unless you're able to watch all your dvds within the first month of purchase, I'd say wait and don't double-triple dip these suckers...

I really enjoyed this film so I'll probably be picking this up. I'm going to have to seriously curb my spending on initial releases. It seems EVERYTHING eventually receives an updgraded release shortly down the road.

That's good news. I never did pick up the first version, even though I really enjoyed the movie. I'll definitely be adding this to the list.

Goddamnit. I really didn't expect this. Oh well, my rule of thumb is that unless a double-dip includes a new cut of the film, deleted scenes or a major upgrade in picture/audio then I won't bite.

David Prior, a well known DVD producer, mentioned on a message board once that he and other DVD producers work their asses off producing these big deluxe 2-disc sets, yet the studio gives these sets little if not zero promotion compared to the single disc sets that are released months earlier.

I was about 10 seconds away from purchasing this. Didn't expect this announcement but cool news.

My wife prefers The Illusionist to The Prestige, but I only rented the 1 disc and only she saw it. I'll await reviews on the 2 disc before deciding which version to purchase.
