Criterion (Eclipse) part 2
CURRENT ECPLISE LINE-UP (updated March 3):
Eclipse 1: Bergman Early Works
Ecliplse 2: Louis Malle Docs
Ecliplse 3: Late Ozu
Ecliplse 4: Raymond Bernard
**************
The second addition to the Eclipse line will be Louis Malle's doc's. Street date: April 24th.
Over the course of a nearly forty-year career, Louis Malle forged a reputation as one of the world’s most versatile cinematic storytellers, with such widely acclaimed, and wide-ranging, masterpieces as Elevator to the Gallows, My Dinner with Andre, and Au revoir les enfants. At the same time, however, with less fanfare, Malle was creating a parallel, even more personal body of work as a documentary filmmaker. With the discerning eye of a true artist and the investigatory skills of a great journalist, Malle takes us from his French homeland to India to the United States, in some of the most engaging and fascinating nonfiction films ever made.

It's all very easy. You just wait for the right time (DDD sale, DVDPlanet sale with GCO, etc.) and then strike like there's no tomorrow. Course, there better be a tomorrow because I need at least a day to watch all that goodness.

a small UPDATE:
Eclipse 1: Early Bergman
Eclipse 2: Louis Malle Docs
Eclipse 3: Late Ozu
Eclipse 4: Raymond Bernard
If members are OK with it I could keep updating this thread with each new title that is being announced (should ask a moderator to adjust the title of the thread only to ECLIPSE). Let me know...

You needn't buy a Region 0 player! Region 0 is playable in all regions and the Herzog set is fantastic. Granted, it's a large chunk of change but it's so very very worth every penny.
It also bumped Herzog up to being the most represented director in my collection (trumping Hitchcock) film-for-film which I'm quite pleased with as he's just about my favorite person that ever lived.

Not much of a Malle aficionado to be honest, but Vive le Tour is a great little film.

I couldn't be more pleased about the Raymond Bernard's three-part Les Misérables (1934) coming to DVD on Eclipse. Here's my IMDb comment on this film after seeing in three parts on TFO (Ontario):
A masterpiece!, 17 October 2005
Author: Benoît A. Racine from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
TFO (la Télévision Française en Ontario), the French Ontario TV channel has started showing the complete version of this 5 hours and 15 minutes piece (3 x 1 hour and 47 minutes) in three parts, on three consecutive Sundays, starting yesterday. This is major event as this film is almost never shown, is not available on DVD and is usually cut down, when shown at all, to three hours. It is an amazing accomplishment for 1934 because of the following elements: the mobility of the camera, the sound effects, the music by Arthur Honegger, the witty, almost literary, visual ellipses, the interpretation of Baur and Vanel, the editing and eerie expressionistic camera angles, and the production values in general (sets and costumes cannot be topped). The only drawback of the TV showing is that the film is cropped vertically (the old "tops of the heads are missing" syndrome), which comes from cropping a 1.30:1 narrow ratio early-talkie film onto a 1.37:1 TV screen without pillar-boxing. It's still worth the watch. Needless to say: This is long overdue on DVD!
Historical note: The creepy night scene where Cosette is sent, despite her fears, to fetch water a long way from home at the request of her heartless keepers, is a direct inspiration for Walt Disney's Snow White's panicky flight through the forest scene of three years later (1937).

If so, Kerborus, it says that set is both Region 0 and NTSC (so you don't need a region free player or a player that converts PAL to NTSC).
It is however very expensive at 150 Euros, which is about $197 before shipping.
150.00 EUR = 196.741 USD
