GBA cases and cover art

I'm guessing that I'm very late to this party, but I don't think I've ever seen this mentioned here, so maybe others would like the information also.

I've always wanted a better storage solution for GBA games. The cardboard boxes aren't practical, and just leaving the game without any packaging sucks.

Enter the GBA DS Cover Project on Snackbar Games

- Nintendo DS cases also have slots for GBA games.
- The Nintendo Online Store sells DS cases. 10 for $7, 5 for $4, or $1 each. Shipping is a flat rate no matter how many are ordered, so order all at once. So....

Step one: Buy DS cases
Step two: Print DS covers, found at Snackbar Games GBA Cover Project
Step three: ...
Step four: Profit

Some pictures of collections that others have sent in:

Forum dedicated to the project
There is also a thread on CAG about the project, but since I've never left the deals forum there, I never saw it. Oops.

that's really neat, i agree, i dont understand why there's no protection for the carts at all. these look like they take up a lot of space tho, but at least they will look good next to the PSP games

These look awesome, but I will have to contiunue to hold out for a good solution involing multiple games in one storage device. I have way too many GBA games to devote shelf space one game to one case.

Thanks to being only 200 miles from the Nintendo distribution warehouse, I got my cases the day after they were shipped, despite going UPS Ground.

I printed all but one of the covers at Office Depot for $.89 per page. Standard paper is definitely good enough. I think a glossy paper would be too shiny, since the plastic case naturally provides some shine.

A couple things of note:
- GB/GBC/GBA instruction booklets are slightly larger than DS booklets. You need to cut a small plastic divider out to make it fit. I used a 12-year-old dull box knife blade, and easily & quickly cut it out. No big deal.
- WarioWare Twisted doesn't fit (obviously). Some people worked up a two-case design, but I haven't decided if I'll go through with that or not. It is a bit of work.
- The cases rock.

I took some pictures, in case anyone wanted to see. The last pictures show the Aria of Sorrow case and its corresponding box side-by-side.

That's pretty cool. I just keep all my games in a little gift bag though and have the boxes stored in the closest. I couldn't justify the cost to create new packaging for about 40 GBA games (of which a handful are imports and the covers are probably not on that site). Still, thanks for the pictures, they look great.

I have 25 GB-GBA games and 3 paper-sleeve DS games that need replacing. I've been on that site for a while now, downloaded all the covers I needed. Even printed them out at the office. Got them sitting right there on my bookshelf. I just haven't taken the time to buy the 30 or 40 cases I need from Nintendo. I need to just make the plunge. I fully intend on doing the WarioWare Twisted 2-case mod as well

Pixy, have you checked on those imports? I've seen several. They have over 600 GB/C/A covers hosted.

Those are super cool. I'm glad to see the revival of the Genesis-style clamshell case with the DS.

I don't know why I didn't think about cutting out the divider in the GBA case. Here, I thought I was forced to live my manuals sitting in the original cardboard box.

Yeah. Even if you don't have a box cutter, just about anything sharp will work. Most people use an Exacto knife. One guy even mentioned using nail clippers...

That is an awesome and great idea. . I have plenty of GBA carts...but not many of the original boxes. Oh wait...WTF...this thread is 6 years old and the link is dead as a doornail. *sigh*

Also, the cases on the Nintendo site no longer contain the GBA cart slot

Wow, thread from the dead....

The cover art is still available. It moved to http://www.thecoverproject.net/, and now includes art for just about every console and handheld. The percentage of game with art varies based on the age & popularity of the games and the system.

I have no idea where you can get cases with GBA slots any more. Ebay maybe?

Yeah Ebay should have them. But probably at a preminum. At least the project still exists
