Was this Season of Smallville Worth Watching?
***First off don't spoil this season for me incase I end up watching it***
So, last season I dropped Smallville from the list of shows I followed due to the fact that it had been sucking for awhile and I just didn't see it pulling it around. Now that the season is about done i'm starting to wonder if I made the right decision. I mean I had watched every episode and it's tough to just give up on a show like that. Now, i'm not some crazy fan who demands all the episodes to be gold, but I would like it to not suck. What do you think, should I watch this season?

This is the first season I've watched on the air. Before this I waited till each season was on DVD. The show is still stumbling at times but there is stuff out there on TV that is far far worse. I still haven't watched the episode from last week that I taped so it's not like I'm on the edge of my seat and have to watch it as soon as it airs.
It's worth watching if your a fan but the longer this show run the less fans want to stick with it I guess.

There's still some irritating elements especially Clark and Lana's relationship. However, as a fan of the show, I thought this season was probably the strongest since Season 1. Reckoning was probably one of the best and most dramatic episodes of the entire series.

I think this season sucked so far. There was basically 1 major event that happened this season and a zillion filler episodes and relationship mumbo jumbo to go around it.

I have about eight eps on my brother's Tivo and I am still debating whether or not to watch them.

OK, I've just read a bunch of spoilers becaue I wanted to know how many episodes were left this season. I think the last 2 episodes are going to be great if what I read is true. If they pan out these episodes will make up for the junk we've been watching this season.
To the OP, IMO the season has been a mixed bag. Some good stuff, some OK stuff and some absolute junk. I say rent them once they are released. Can't really go into details without spoiling it for you

The show really peaked from the second half of the first season thru the second season. After that it has struggled, with isolated shows giving us a glimpse of potential.
But I cannot deny that there is something about the world they have created that keeps me in, even though the storylines (even the long arcs) have sucked.

Plus the one before the winter break. Everything you need to know about Smallville happens in those 5 episodes.

I think it's much better than last season, but it's still one of the least consistent shows on tv. It's frustrating because everytime they latch onto an exciting idea or start going in an interesting direction they end up blowing it somehow.

This show is a pathetic shell from it's first 2 seasons.
It really is sad that the ratings have never been better, because the quality of this show is not.
That being said, I will watch thru the end of the season. But if it doesn't improve, then next year I will not watch it, especially if it continues to be on Thursday at 8 pm.

I've found this season much more enjoyable than the previous two (season 3 & 4). Even the FOTW episodes are entertaining.
I know people hate them but how else are you really going to challenge Superman to show off his powers every week? Not much of a challenge is the foes are just normal people that pose no threat at all to Clark.

how many are we down to? 3 or 4? i thought last week was 5x19?
also, i'd say this season was pretty good. i like the overall story better than the previous year. there were some really bad ones (i'll never watch that vampire on again), but overall the season has been good. plus i'd say the HUGE break kinds skews things - i forgot a lot that happened in the meantime.

I'm just hoping for an X-Files style "mythology" box set once the series is over--so I can buy only the episodes that matter in the larger arc. This probably means season openers, season enders, and 3-4 from the midseasons.

The ratings are high because the people that hate the show and claim they're going to give up on it, never seem to do so. Maybe not! Anyway, this season has been sort of meh. Up and down, with great moments in a number of shows, but the show creators and writers never have the guts to keep going in a different direction, or to take the show in a different direction. Even when they do try something new, they quickly hit the reset button. You would think after 5 seasons we wouldn't still be getting "freak of the week" episodes. That's just lazy ass creativity.

Speaking for myself, I keep watching the show because it has a huge amount of potential and every week I expect and hope that it will be fullfilled. Unfortunately, I think the writers aren't lazy as you suggest, but are just incapable of fulfilling that potential. I don't think any of the seasons have been really great, and that is a dissapointment.
I'm not a a crazed Whedonite, but I think they should have been more closely following the Buffy the Vampre Slayer style of television. I'd prefer to see an overriding season arc, that moves the character development forward. We should be seeing a gradual progression from Clark to Superman. Instead, all of the chraracters have remained stagnant, with the exception of Lex, who is randomly evil with little or no motivation.

The first half of the season was like good sex, but then they blew their wad early and still have to try and finish up, when really they can barely still keep it up and have to act like they're enjoying it.
