Rick Rubin to produce new Metallica Album
Rumor's have been flying for months now, but it was just posted today on Metallica's official web site.

I think Bob gets a great sound (well except for St Anger). The songs just need to be better! (I've never liked any album since "Justice...")
I'd like to hear all of St Anger done properly (like the remix of "Some Kind Of Monster").

Good news. I'm just happy they are making another album. Don't love Metallica but what they do they do well.

Between this news and finally getting to hear Robert Trujillo's bass playing recorded, this might be enough to renew my interest in a Metallica album again.

Hmmm. They might actually put out a good album -- something they haven't done in twenty years. (gulp!)
And, yeah, it will be good to hear Trujillo on bass with the band. Esp. with Rubin behind the mixing board.

I'm thinking it's probably too little, too late. I can't see James Hetfield changing the direction of the band or at least loosing all that "bluesy-ness." Not to mention that Rick Rubin's last record was, what, Neil Diamond?

Mighty impressive list of productions. It's obvious that the man loves music, ALL music; of all the above listed, I've heard about 30%, and they all sound FANTASTIC...and, they all sound DIFFERENT (which is the sign of a great producer....make it sound wonderful, throw in a few things/surprises, but don't lose the core sound of the performer).
there was an earlier thread about who Rubin should work with next and i posted Metallica.

Hey, don't slag on the Neil Diamond record until you've heard it... because it's pretty damn good.
Rick Rubin impresses me because he is a fan of all music, not just specific genres. A man who can go from producing Neil Diamond to Metallica to Shakira is alright in my book.
