Interesting list. I have heard of most of the artists but I have never listened to most of these cds (other than Team Police). Anyone have these or have heard them? Worth blind buys? Opinions?

3. The Firesign Theatre: Don't Crush the Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers
4. Stan Freberg: Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America, Vol. 1 & 2
5. Team America: World Police: Soundtrack
6. Phyllis Diller: The Best of Phyllis Diller
7. Gilbert Gottfried: Dirty Jokes
8. Martin Mull: Martin Mull and His Fabulous Furniture in Your Living Room
9. The National Lampoon Radio Hour: Best Moments
10. Lenny Bruce: The Lenny Bruce Originals Vol. 1

I have a few comedy cds but none listed above. I have a few Carlin Cd's and I have to say I really don't think he's very funny. I'm 25, maybe it's a generational thing. I'm a big Martin Mull fan though so I'll picking that one up for sure.

I've got the Smothers Brothers and the George Carlin one (I got that one as part of "Little David Years: 1971-1977" boxset which is well worth looking into if you're a fan). Both are very good.
I've come very close to buying a Firesign Theatre CD on several occasions but never quite pulled the trigger. I've heard good stuff about them, but have never heard them.

I'm 26 and don't think Carlin is that funny. The little bits of his acts from the 70's and 80's that I've seen are amusing but I'm not a big fan of humor based off of strange phrases/saying.

I've got a pretty decent stand-up CD collection and only own one of those discs (Team American). Different strokes, I guess.
Count me in the camp that doesn't care for Carlin, although I think my opinion is based more on his appearances in the last few years rather than his early to mid stand-up career. He just seems like a bitter old unfunny coot nowadays. You hate religion. I get it. (Obligatory age disclosure: I'm 30)
While we're talking about comedy CDs, within the past week or so I watched Louis C.K.'s HBO and Comedy Central specials and found the guy hilarious. Anyone have his CD?
And, not to take this thread in an entirely different direction, but I also just found out that Penn has a daily radio show now (http://penn.freefm.com/). I wish the podcasts would contain the whole show rather than a single bit/rant, since I don't live in one of his markets and am at work when it is broadcast (and, thus, can't listen to a live stream). Oh, well.

People raggin' on Carlin? George Carlin?
Of course, I'm an old coot of 37 who love dirty words and hates organized religion. But I don't think I'm irredeemably over-the-hill, as my next favorite isn't "Firesign Theater" or "Lenny Bruce"... but Matt & Trey!

I can't believe he put "Bert & I" on that list.
I thought only people here in Maine liked that stuff. That's some old-school Downeast humah theyah, bud.
I like George Carlin. He reminds me of my grandfather with his language and his opinions. Since we seem to be saying how old we are, I'm 28. I like the bit on believing in Joe Pesci instead of Jesus. I think that's funny.

Kind of surprised that the Coz isn't on their, either - as much as his bemused father schtick may have gotten tired, his albums are pretty f'ing funny. No Hedberg, either. NO comedy album I've ever heard made me laugh as hard as Mitch all Together upon first listen. Hrm.

This is a great thread. I have an approximately 18 year old tape of Eddie Murphy - Delirious. My girlfriend heard it for the first time the other night. I asked "what do you want to watch tonight?" which she responded "I want to be rolling on the floor laughing." Well, she got her wish especially when Aunt Bunny fell down the steps. I thought she was going to have a heart attack from laughing so hard. Of course then I started laughing hard because she was laughing so hard.
Ever laugh so hard your head hurts after. Let's just say I needed some aspirin.
I just started a 'comedy' section in my DVD collection so this thread is perfect. After listening to Eddie's Delirious I went out and bought Raw. Unfortunatley Raw isn't nearly as funny as Delirious.
I think I'll check out Carlin as I have heard he's funny and have never heard his routine. I hear he does a spiel about what you cannot say on the radio or something like that.

I did after this post and was very disappointed...found out he only has two cds and that he's dead. That sucks!
What happened?Gonna definitely have to check out his cds though. I always laugh more than usual when they play his stuff.
