A couple earlier threads:

Looking for Good Comedy Albums
Comedy stand-Up For Long Road Trip???

"222" by Patton Oswalt is still my gold standard.

I still get a lot of mileage out of Dennis Miller's "The Off-White Album".

Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer is probably my favourite.

My first was a double CD from BMG, Carlin's Classic Gold. It's a great collection of his best stuff, he's one of few comics that don't seem to be doing "material". I was a bit disappointed with his latest HBO special, though. The four minute thing at the beginning was a bit much for Carlin, I expect more.

Mitch All Together from Mitch Hedberg is fantastic, I saw him once on Letterman years ago, and I couldn't believe it when I found out he had a CD out. I was able to see him live once in Seattle @ Giggles, I couldn't believe it when I found out he died. It's such a shame that he was on the Comedy Central tour with Dave Attell and Lewis Black, but he didn't get promotion out of it.

Lewis Black is damn funny. If it weren't for my horse..

Adam Sandler's first was great. Toll Booth Willy, Sex or Weightlifting, At a Medium Pace!

Dane Cook is funny, I like Harmful if Swallowed a bit more than Retalliation. He'll be hosting SNL on 12/3, which should be interesting.

Firesign Theater: How Can You Be In Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All?

It's outrageously ambitious. The drug culture jokes may be stale, but a lot of the things they mock are still true. And it's the only comedy album I know that has to be listened to more than once. There are multiple jokes at the same time! And no one today would dare include a reading from James Joyce in a comedy album.

Both of David Cross' albums are fantastic. Bill hicks was great, but I find his albums aren't as good as the video footage you can find. I also enjoyed Adam Sandler's first album (even his second wasn't THAT bad), but don't bother with the rest. I personally find Dane Cook unfunny, but he's worth a listen at least.

R. Kelly - Trapped in the Closet.

Also, Brian Regan.
Really "over-the-line" comedy: Stephen Lynch.
Bill Hicks.

Eddie Izzard's "Dress to Kill"
Bill Hicks "Dark Poet" and "Rant in E Minor"
Lewis Black "The White Album" and "The End of the Universe" (the rest of them suck)
Patton Oswalt "Feeling Kinda Patton"
Pretty much any George Carlin, Richard Pryor or Sam Kinison release

More to come as I think about them.

"Comedy Minus One" - Albert Brooks.

Do yourself a favor - do NOT look up what this album is about. Just find a copy (rare and expensive), play it, and enjoy. I'm serious. If you look it up, you will ruin it. Don't let curiosity get you on this one; it will ruin it. And that's my last warning.

I think my favorite is Bobcat Goldthwait "I Don't Mean to Insult You, But You Look Like Bobcat Goldthwait"

I also like:

anything by Richard Pryor
most George Carlin
Dane Cook "Harmful If Swallowed" & "Retaliation" (not as good as harmful, but still funny)
anything by Jim Gaffigan
Todd Barry "Falling Off the Bone"
Mitch Hedberg "Mitch All Together" & "Strategic Grill Locations"
anything by Lewis Black
Robin Williams "A Night At The Met" & "Live 2002"
anything by Eddie Izzard

I also laugh at former Black Flag lead singer Henry Rollins, except he's "spoken word" which just means he's not always funny, sometimes he is serious. Rollins isn't for everyone, I'm not even sure who to compare him to. You can check out a couple clips from his dvds at http://www.henryrollins.com

Oh yeah, gotta second the Rollins suggestion. Especially the story "Eric the Pilot" (only available through his website).

Ron White's "They Call Me Tater Salad" is good for a first listen, but after hearing him do the same material for god knows how many years now, it's getting old.

It's rare that you find a comic that doesn't work blue but is still funny, but Bill Engvall is one of them. "Here's Your Sign," "Dorkfish," "That's Awesome," and "Cheap Drunk" are all good.

Oh yeah, one of the best non-blue performances ever... Bill Cosby "Himself."

Anything by Monty Python

I agree with Firesign Theatre's How Can You Be in Two Places at Once... and would also include Waiting for the Electrician, and Don't Crush that Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers, also by Firesign.

And the Golden Throats albums are always good for a laugh.

While looking through my mom's old album collection, I found this album that I had regrettably forgotten about. Well, actually, it comes to mind on rare occasion, but I haven't listened to it in years. Anyone remember Homer & Jethro?

I loved this album when I was a kid, and I found that I still have a great deal of the songs and jokes on the album fairly commited to memory to this day. It's absolutely hilarious, and I recommend it to anyone who loves good music and good, clean humor.
