Chicken Little is up 8.8% from last Friday, definitely benefitted from there being no school.

Saw II is holding up strong. Zathura will have a soft opening, but may be able to show legs if word of mouth is as good as it ought to be. Derailed is opening stronger than I thought it would, but that's only because I haven't heard anything about it personally. Legend of Zorro is actually holding on decently (though low), should break $100m at the international bo this weekend.

Impressive CHICKEN LITTLE numbers... even for a holiday. Should have a nice hold... and as one of the few people who seemed to have really liked the movie, that's a good thing.

Big hit for Jarhead. CL could have a shot at $200 mil now, unless Potter really squishes it. I thought Zathura would've been higher.

Ha! oh man, I'm really happy that Chicken Little produced so well and lived up to what I thought it would in that it would gather the money before potter comes out. Zathura without a big name is just a subpar jumanji to the publics eye.

Wow, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is Dead Dead, Goodbye Goodbye.

Shame as it's a really great movie. Lots of laugh out loud moments.

I don't think it opened wide this weekend. I thought it was supposed to, but I don't see it showing anywhere.

Is it? After a single Friday number?

Give it two more weeks, then you can piss on the ashes.

Keep in mind that Jumanji had an opening weekend gross of only $11.5m.

It ultimately made $100m domestically. That said, it didn't have Harry Potter to compete against.

I already said that Potter will crush it next week. But the fact that it got another weekend of padding before the crash that most assumed would be felt this weekend with the opening of Zathura.

Why again would a big name help Zathura? Lack of a big name hasn't seemed to hurt Saw II.

Jumanji was 10 years ago... and Zathura's target audience, let's say 12 year olds, were only 2 back then and probably never saw Jumanji.

I really don't think they're pulling any comparisons to a movie they probably didn't see.

Glad to see 50 Cent's movie is not doing well... I'd hate for there to me a dozen more.

The draw of horror movies is the genre itself. Other movies depend on star power to bring in audiences. Having a "name" actor in Zathura would have drastically changed its promotion.

It's much easier to get a no name star to sign on for a horror movie so they can get hacked up. Much tougher to do with big name ones...

BTW, Capote added another $1 million this weekend. Up to $6.6 million.

So it's okay to not have a star for a horror movie, but you say a child fantasy movie needs a star to be successful? Even though the target audience probably knows nothing on who "stars" are? Does that make any sense?
