Boone wears a shirt with Chinese characters for the numbers 8 and 4, from top to bottom. The number 4 is associated with death (that why older Chinese generation stay away from the number 4, i.e. door #, license plates etc...). If the numbers read 48 (bottom to top), it means to die...

Claire wears a shirt (or sweater, don't really remember) has the Chinese character for 'LOVE.'

Jack has four Chinese characters tatooed to his upper arm. I can't make out the entire four, but the last character is 'PEACE.' Does anyone know what the other three character means? I'm a little certain of the 3rd one, the one before 'PEACE' is 'PERPETUAL.' Which is kind of weird, since it's an ancient city in China, Chang'an...

How the heck Groucho posted his/her reply before mines? Well, i know Sun and Jin are Korean... There's a Chinese dude on the island too, i saw him twice. Between now, did you guys/gals know that the dvd version has tiny bit more than the tv show when you watching w/ the commercial breaks? e.g. The black smoke/cloud from the hole lingers more in the dvd version than the TV version.

I read the 5 on his arm will come in to play this season.

This glitch happened yesterday too. Someone posted a response to a question I had, and my thank you post in response was before the actual answer to the question.

Well Groucho posts incredibly fast and he has a an ultra highspeed OC-3 connection. Due to the speed at which he posts and how it takes around 1/5000th of a second for his post to reach the dvdtalk servers it actually hit the internet before yours did. Strange but true.

How could you correct something that wasn't going to happen for 3 minutes??

Anyway, away with the digression, does anyone know what the Chinese characters on Jack's tatoo mean? Or anyone has a picture of the characters?

I have heard too that Jack's tat it one he had before the show...but if you recall the episode where he was getting ready for his wedding, in the dressing room or whatever, he didn't have the tattoo. If it's a real tattoo, they must have edited it out for some reason?

It's definitely not there...(sorry, that's the best shot of his right shoulder I could find)...

akick, i don't know how much times you spent for the pictures, but you got a good point there! The tatoos are edited out in the flashback... See the 5 tatoo posted earlier and then compare the bare upper arm pics from akick's link, you can see that the tatoos are edited out. Hmmmm, an error? Well, not a big deal, but it could be a clue to something... Maybe they will encounter some Chinese document or artifact and it's fate that each of them know something about a Chinese character or two

& they are 0-4. Coincidence? I think not.
