Another comedy remake: Summer School

PAR ENROLLS IN 'SCHOOL' REDO

'Summer' assignment for Pennekamp, Turpel

Paramount Pictures has decided to go back to "Summer School," setting up a remake of the 1987 Mark Harmon comedy with producer Jordan Kerner and his Kerner Entertainment shingle.

Why why why why why when the original was very good?

Why? It's not like this is a classic or anything, just a mildly amusing comedy.

It's a story that can easily translate.

But I'm against this one. The DVD release reminded me just how funny the film was.

Terrible idea! Usually I don't like to prejudge a movie that hasn't even been filmed yet, but I'll make an exception here. The original was a great movie, classic 80s, and the only reason to remake it is to give some flavor-of-the-month "actor" a light comedy. Bad idea!

Oh lord. I bet it will be an "urban" themed remake. Somebody get Cedric the Entertainer on the phone. No no no Steve Harvey.

How much longer until the John Cusack classics Say Anything or Better Off Dead get a re-make?

Oh lord, you'e probably right. For me it's not even so much the urban thing as it's that I'm so sick of those two guys. I used to think they were amusing years ago, but they've long since worn out their welcome with their tired schtick.

I hate to encourage this, but after seeing clips of the new Bad News Bears remake I think Billy Bob Thonton in that mode (aka Bad Santa mode) would be interesting in the Mark Harmon role. At least it would be different enough from the original without being total crap. Better than a "generic urban" remake, at least.

I haven't seen the original (can't believe I actually have to say that about this movie now) in a long time but I remember loving the two dudes who were horror movie freaks:

"oh, and if possible........please try to save the afterbirth" - classic.

Especially since the original had 1 black character in it--And he spent the entire movie in a bathroom.

Kelly Jo Minter doesn't count since she looks Central American to me.

Oh, and I'll gladly take Cedric over Mike Epps.

How about this for a remake...

'The Wizard of OZ',
Written and directed by Tim Burton

starring:

Hillary Duff as "Dorothy Gale"
Mel Brooks as "The Wizard / Professor Marvel"
Jeff Goldblum as "The Tinman"
Jim Carrey as "The Scarecrow"
John Goodman as "The Cowardly Lion"
Kirstie Allie as "Glenda, GWOTN"
Judie Dench as "Miss Gulch /TWWOTW"

17 year-old Dorothy Gale (Duff) is tired of always being the perfect little girl. So, to shed her goody-goody image, she goes with some friends to a rave in a club in the seedy part of town. She discovers a world of debauchery, sin, and desire, and takes the trip of a life time. An acid trip, that is. Gale is swept away in a whirlwind of emotions, and her hallucinations take her to the magical Land of Oz, where she must enlist the help of the Cowardly Lion (Goodman), the Scarecrow (Carrey), and the Tinman (Goldblum) to liberate the inhabitants from the megalomaniacal and hedonistic Glenda, the Good Witch of the North (Allie). However, along the way she accidentally kills The Wicked Witch of the West (Dench), and is placed on trial for capital murder. She is prosecuted by the Grand Wizard of Oz himself (Brooks), who seems to know more of the crime than he should. Will Dorothy escape with her life, or will she be found guilty and be executed by the Flying Monkeys?

Exactly. Fuck Mark Harmon. NCIS sucks as did Chicago Hope.

I'd pay to watch Vince Vaughn eat a sandwich as that'd probably would be more amusing than most of the comedies currently produced in Hollywood (hell, Vaughn is the only good thing in the shitfest known as Wedding Crashers).

I actually think Steve Carell would be perfect in that role, although Ben Stiller in over-the-top "a-hole mode" (a la Dodgeball) would be funny as hell.

Well, that was a quick change of heat.
