Sure looking forward to new editions of these dvd's!

Was bored today and started looking at my dvd collection to see what movies I have aren't anamorphic. I got my first widescreen tv last year and now I can really tell a difference in anamorphic vs non. Here's what iI need to get one day, when they come out....

10 things I hate about you
The Abyss (sigh)
After Sex
The American President
Anastasia
Annie Hall
Armageddon
Back to School
Backdraft
Celebrity
A Clockwork Orange
Con Air
The Country Bears
Crimson Tide
Enemy of the State
Ever After
Everyone Says I Love You
Four Weddings and a Funeral
From Dusk Til Dawn
The Game
Ginger Snaps
Good Will Hunting
The Graduate
Grosse Point Blanke
I'll Remember April
Lady and the Tramp
A Life Less Ordinary
The Little Mermaid
The Matchmaker
Mission Impossible
Never Been Kissed
Nightmare before Christmas
Nobody's Baby
The Other Sister
Picture Perfect
Presumed Innocent
Pretty Woman
Psycho
Pushing Tin
Quiz Show
Scream
Shag - The Movie
Six Days, Seven Nights
Snake Eyes
Some Like it Hot
Somewhere in Time
Summer of Sam
Swamp Thing
Texas Chainsaw massacre
True Lies
Truman Show
Vertigo
Wargames
When We Were Kings
Wish Upon a Star
With Honors
Young Frankenstein

I see on the Upcoming re-release thread that some are in the works. Before taking inventory, I had no idea how many "inferior" discs I had!

the Canadian version of "Ginger Snaps" is anamorphic. It actually has special features too.

I'll second the Canadian version of Ginger Snaps. It's a damn fine set.

Rerelease in no way means that the new version will be better or that there is anything wrong with the current release. It just means they want more of your money.

For example, The Graduate. MGM keeps putting out not-so 'Special Editions' and they keep falling way short of what the film deserves.

I don't understand why there is no anamorphic Abyss or True Lies (although that's coming, right?), and Titanic is finally coming. Must be a James Cameron thing. From my own tiny "collection" I'd like to add Thief. A depressing list.

Are any of the Kurosawa criterions being re-released anytime soon? From what i've read, Sanjuro and Yojimbo are very poor for criterion's standards, and yet there are rumors that seven samurai is getting another release.

Seven Samurai is supposed to be getting re-released either late this year or early next. I think I read somewhere that Sanjuro and Yojimbo were possibly being released.

As for the very poor for Criterion's standards you really have to take into account that these are fairly early releases. Their first Anamorphic release was only Insomnia which came out just before these two. Criterion's releases for the most part keep getting better and better. You got to look at these early releases and realise that the technology had not really caught on the way it has now.

Also, there's only so much you can do with the source material. If you expect Criterion to put out Snow White-quality releases then you should also expect to wait a year or so between each Criterion release.

Not that I disagree. I don't think they did a very good job with ANY of the Kurosawa films. But at least they're out there and can be seen.
