18-title Best Picture Oscar collection at Amazon: $139.99

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007KXRZI/

Titles included:

Amadeus: Special Edition
American in Paris, An
Around the World in 80 Days: Special Edition
Ben Hur
Broadway Melody of 1929
Casablanca: Special Edition
Chariots of Fire: Special Edition
Driving Miss Daisy: Special Edition
Gigi
Gone with the Wind: Four-Disc Collector's Ed.
Grand Hotel
Great Ziegfeld
Life of Emile Zola, The
Mrs. Miniver
Mutiny on the Bounty
My Fair Lady: Special Edition
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: Special Ed.
Unforgiven: Special Edition

Too bad there's no STL anymore to make the deal a bit better. I have most of these anyway, but thought someone might want to take Amazon up on this. Comes out to about $7.78 per title (some are 2-disc editions, and Gone with the Wind is 4 discs).

Wonder if that is the correct price since Amazon will most likely cancel all orders if they discover it was mispriced. I have no interest since I already own all titles but three on the list, otherwise it looks like a good deal. If anyone has an A9 discount available on their Amazon account it would help lower the cost a bit.

I own 8 of the titles. Pretty good deal, however, Warner Brothers will be more than likely upgrading a few of those titles. An American In Paris and Gigi are almost guaranteed to be re-released in 2-disc sets.

Well, since I collect Best Pics DVD's, I'm going for this. I have 3 of them (Gone with the Wind; Casablanca; Unforgiven), I'll have to get rid of. This will make 33 of 76.

Thanks jmj

Seen 'em most, but only have 3. Had I the money, I'd buy this easily.

It's a steal considering $7.78 per title on average. Gone with the Wind by itelf costs nearly $30 and the rest of the Warner's 2-discers cost around $18 each. So it's a very, very good deal.

Too bad I already have 8 titles out of the 18.

You're welcome, Molson. I knew most of us serious collectors had at least some of these, but the deal is indeed a good one, especially if you only have a few, or none at all.

I've got 3 as well (Around the World in 80 Days, Casablanca, and GWTW), but am still seriously considering this.

Can anybody predict if all the DVDs are sealed individually and then wrapped together?

Not sure if there would be a way to tell. Maybe writing Warner or Amazon might get a response though Amazon CSR's probably don't have any info outside of what is on the site.

Since they don't appear to be housed in any collection type box they are just packaged like they would be if one purchased all individually.

If someone DOES want to do this and already has a couple of the titles, let me know... some of the more common movies on there I'm actually missing. (Gone with the Wind, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Unforgiven). I'd be up to split an order if someone wants to... the price-per-film in this deal is really good, and I wouldn't mind picking a few of those up.

Not only that, but you probably have to pay a 1% conversion charge on your CC.

Plus, if you use the Pi/2 Discount, your price will be about $137.79 at Amazon.com.

They have smaller sets with less of the movies if you own a bunch though it looks like its not as good of a deal ($58.48):

Best Picture Oscar Collection - Drama (Amadeus/Casablanca Special Edition/Driving Miss Daisy/The Life of Emile Zola/Mrs. Miniver) (2005)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd

Best Picture Oscar Collection - Adventures (Ben-Hur / Around the World in 80 Days / One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest / Mutiny on the Bounty / Unforgiven)

Best Picture Oscar Collection - Musicals (My Fair Lady Special Edition / An American in Paris / The Broadway Melody of 1929 / Gigi / The Great Ziegfeld)

If they did a "Best Picture Oscar Collection - Comedies", I'm sure everyone could afford that.

It would probably be better to get these individually through Columbia House since they have most if not all of the titles available on their web site.

For dv2 members, it looks like dv2.com has this for $120 shipped. Plus you'd get $10 in funcash for that. Pretty good deal there.

I'm not 100% certain that this is the same collection, though, since there's no picture and no UPC listed. The odds of Warner putting out two 28 disc collections called "Best Picture Oscar Collection" would seem to be pretty slim, though.

I ordered this set, but now I am concerned. The smaller box sets do not include the 2 disc versions of Unforgiven, One Flew or Amadeus. I know this because I held these sets in my hands today and they included just regular snapper single discs for those titles. The 2-disc versions are the ones i must have ... has anyone seen this set yet ... and does it for sure include 28 discs?

Thanks.

the picture seems to indicate the correct versions. If they send you the single disc versions, then you should be able to send it back to them on their dime.

Price is up to $149.99.

I would have thought it would have shipped today, but I haven't received notification yet.
