don't look now (scared the hell out of me as a kid, bored the hell out of me recently)
those are what i consider scary horror. ie, no jumping cats. and of course watch at night and alone.
final destination 2, since i just recently watched it, the kills were surpisingly "shocking" and grusome without being explicitly gory. the plot and the story and acting all sucked but the tension of just knowing nearly every character is gonna die builds up well when death catches up to them.

Definitely The Shining if you haven't seen it. A lot of people who haven't seen it are disappointed because it's not "that scary", which I agree with, but that doesn't keep it from being my favorite movie. Definitely a classic.
