Will we ever see a Robocop:SE?

I know there was a Criterion release with commentary by Verhoeven but is it possible for MGM to rerelease it?

I only say this because the Criterion is way too expensive for my tastes (and OOP). Have Criterion special features ever ended up on other publisher's discs?

Thanks for your time.

The best way to go is with the R4 version of Robocop. The documentaries are new and it has both versions of the movie on the same disc.

I have in my "ToBuy.xls" file that a rerelease of Robocop is supposed to happen, but no release date is listed. I do not have a source or a web site for my information.

Speaking of Robocop, does anyone know anything about the Robocop 2 release that comes out in the beginning of July?

According to my notes, news of this release was mentioned at Dave's Studio day in September 2001.

They need to re-release #2 w/ lots of goodies!

Amazon still lists Robocop 2 as a July release but I think that is the TV versoin and not the real Robo2.

An SE of Robocop is way overdue. Considering R4 and R2 have had their SE release for quite a while. I have the Criterion disc and I am willing to wait.

Robocop 2 is often maligned but its a film that has its moments. I would prefer it released as some kind of uncut or something similar to the workprint.

I'm one of the enlightened folk with a multiregion player!

Pray tell, what features are on this disc? Is it uncut?

I forget if it's uncut or not-- i haven't watched in awhile-- but my guess is yes

It's running time is listed @ 103 minutes- same length as criterion, and longer than original running time listed on IMDB-- and it's in NTSC

it's 1.85:1 anamorphic - better than criterion.

_ commentary from director, writer, and producer
_making of flesh and Steel
_2 original featurette's
_Storyboard comparison
_ deleted scenes _ 4 as i remember
_ trailers to all the films
_Tv spot, and photo gallery

Well, you've sold me, you seller, you.

Where'd you pick this up? It looks like Region Three has come to the rescue again, after the Army Of Darkness MGM R3 release...

Thats pretty much the same as the region 2. The 1.85:1 anamorphic ratio is indeed superior to the Criterion 1.66:1 non-anamorphic

No, the 1:66 is what Verhoven prefers, if maybe criterion were to rerelease it in anamorphic form, then it would be sweet.

Yes the R4 has both cuts _ BUT is a very POOR SEAMLESS BRANCHING VERSION with very noticeable stutter when the new version gets branched in.

Plus the SE is way over color saturated

Plus the Criterion ratio is the way Verhoeven preffered the movie.

I am keeping the Criterion. I had the R4 for awhile, watched the extras then fleabayed it.

Hmmm I was unware that the Criterion print was preferred by Verhoeven. I stand corrected. The Criterion print could do with a picture clean up though, lots of grain in places...especially during the added footage.

It varies by player. I have the Region 2 boxset and it's almost unnoticeable on my Sony player.

An SE was announced for late 2002, but never happened and no cancellation or postponement was announced that I've found anywhere.

While most of the wit and humour of 1 is not in 2, I really found the violence in Robocop 2 to be not as explicit as the original but more prevailent and vicious, the body count is higher and many innocent bystanders get mauled down near the end did this suffer any cuts mandated by the MPAA to get an R-rating?

I hope the supposed Robocop 2 disc can match the OTT audio mix that the out of print Image Laserdisc excels at. Both Image's audio transfers for Robocop 1 and 2 are simply incredible and in the particular for the former, there is more bass than the Criterion laserdisc and DVD editions.

Thanks for reminding me about this guys.

I actually pulled out my R3 special edition last night. You reminded me that I hadn't watched any of the special features yet...(or the movie for that matter).

Nothin better than it. Picture looks superb and it's got the Directors cut on it. Plus no PAL speed up.

The R2 has both versions on it and if your player is a good one there is no change in the seamless branching. It is uncut and also the Commentary is a different one from the Criterion dvd, so keep your old criterion as now you will have 2 commentarys.

I have seen the R2 as low as $16, for all 3 films, robo 1 2 and 3, all in a nice box, all uncut and anamorphic. dont know where but its always on sale in UK.

I see that theres something called "Robocop: Crash and Burn". Whats that all about?

Also, Im looking at the Box Set being released in Austrailia @ Ezydvd.com. The specs regarding the first Robocop don't list whether or not it's uncut. Anyone know if the Region 4 DVD set being sold on Ezydvd.com has the uncut version as well?

It's most likely one of the countless Robocop TV miniseries specials.
