Stupidest edit for TV

Was channel surfing and came across "Blast from the Past" playing on a local independent. Of course, it was editted for content and I just about died laughing when they overdubbed a character saying "G*d d@mn" replacing it with "Dog gone" but didn't bother removing Brendan Fraser's line "I don't like you using the Lord's name in vain." Either remove the enter sequence or leave the original dialog...

on the other hand the edit-for-TV makes Major League even more hilarious:

"Want me to take him outside, kick the snot out of him?"

"You may run like Mays but you hit like shi......his sister"

"I just got one thing to say to you, strike this moth......GUY out"

I saw an edit of Die Hard 2 with yippee ki-yay my friend...

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a broadcast version of What About Bob. Everywhere he mentioned Turett's Syndrome, they replaced it with some made up disease. Still included the more broadcastable of the Turett cursing, but didn't say the proper, so it made very little sense.

In Lethal Weapon 4

When Gibson is talking to Jet Li about him understanding english he says "I bet he understands words like dirtbag & poopie pants"

I'm not sure what the original line was but it wasn't "Poopie Pants"

Yes, they call it Buddy's Syndrome. What the heck is that supposed to mean? Is Tourette now a naughty word that has to be censored?

That would be a strong candidate for Most Senseless Censorship. Still, my vote for Most Incompetent Censorship goes to Lethal Weapon:

"Flip you, you flippin' airhead."

That edit from What About Bob was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the title. Another thing that surprises me is the director of the movie actually reshot the scenes that say Tourette's, and replaces it with Buddy's. So I guess they were ready for the edited version, or something.

another one from casino is where he's looking out the window with the binoculars and says, "peekaboo you f***shoe". in the edit he just says "peekaboo yo....." and they just don't even try to edit someing in, they just cut the sound short. it just sounds hilarious because he doesn't even get the "you" out of his mouth and it's cut short. we were wondering what they were going to edit in there. it's become a bit of an inside joke for us to run around in bad pesci and say "peekaboo yo...'

ok, well, it's funny to US!

In Stand By Me, the scene where Gordy is talking about Lard Ass. The infamous vomiting scene. Except they cut out all of the vomit. Normally it's hilarious because it's just like a canon of purple goo shooting out of him, but in the edited version he's about to throw up, then all of the sudden the person is covered in a mysterious goo

And they also cut out "Ass," so when the crowd is chanting "Lard Ass," All you hear on TV is "Lard-Lard-Lard!"

Funny how you can say 'ass' on tv now..but certain films they still edit it on tv such as the Stand By Me example.

Also.....

******* is always Ass(bleep/silence ect)......what is so wrong with say hole? I mean they leave in ass,but cut out the rest of the expression.

Another one is Tremor's

Oh god is this horrible on tv,they dub everything over!

You just can't say goddammit or jesus christ anymore!

While other stations usualy end up with
(bleep ect) dammit...with Tremor's is all changed to 'Goll Darnit! or dagnabbit!

& jesus christ is changed to 'judas priest' !!

Another thing i just hate....dubbing over & editing out all & any drug reference!

In True Romance on network tv...they edit out every use of the word 'cocaine' or dub it over. When the suitcase is shown being opened & you can see the bags of coke in it(just like on any cop drama!!),they ZOOM in so you can not see the suitcase or it's content! The film does not make any sense & considering all other 'bad' language in film,it's un-watchable since everything is cut, zoomed in,dubbed & whole scenes are deleted entirely for time issues!..not to mention it's in P&S & looks horrendous!

If someone is shown smoking weed, completely cut out! Cheech & Chong just is bad on tv. Even the montage from Friday when Chris Tucker smokes some joints..completely hacked out..& even a joke about him all strung out running down the street in the middle of the night does'nt make any sense since theres no reference or hint that he is high!

Also in Friday...they blur out alot of licenses plates..i never knew what any of them said..but just noticed a huge 'blur' blocking out whatever they say!

The movie Convoy is another example,a scene where Ernest Borgnine takes some kids car to go after the truckers. On TBS where i saw it along time ago....it just cuts to Borgnine in the car, about to take off..& then says "i'll be back for you later!" since they were doing drugs(smoking some stuff)..the scenes played for laughs as he says "What are you kids doing?..gimme the car" ect...but the entire first half of the scene was hacked out!

Then theres Scarface(1983)....every other word dubbed over, all drug references taken out(you never really know what 'busniess' he is in!),all violence hacked out,in P&S as well.

MTV & VH1...any mentions of drugs...all deleted! It could be any anti-drug song and they still delete the words!

Yet get this...they always air shows about drug use and what it does to people, they show people shooting up heroin, smoking joints, even leave in all the various names of drugs in!

I tell you you..i'm getting sicker of political correctness everyday!

Lethal Weapon 1 when Mel Gibson is shot by a driveby bad-guy and says to Danny Glover afterwards - "let's bury these funsters." I love the word funster.

NBC replaced "dick" with "nothing" for MIB.

And what pissed me off the other day was that MTV beeped "crap" on the Real World.

I love in Die Hard how they show people murder innocent civilians... ect.. and yet will redub naughty words

Also in Starship Troopers they'll show people getting lit on fire, or stabbed through the chest... but they wont show the non sexual nudity! Hahaha.

I thought we were supposed to be land of the free. It's so funny.

Same with FX's airing of Summer of Sam. All the violence was left in (Including that victim getting shot in the face) but the sex scenes were a big NO-NO for the network..Sure is odd, aint it.

My memorable Tv-edit line, "Come on, Maggot Farmer, Move!"-Platoon

My all time favorite was the TV broadcast of "Back to the Future" (circa 1990)

Biff: You son of a butthead.

The next one was another Chasing Amy on oxygene. My g/f caught this on TV and noticed that the work ***** was replaced with the word "hump":

Banky: You said hump, you said you were going to hump her!

Alyssa: If you mean hump as in penetration...

Makes me wonder what "Jay & Slient Bob Strike Back" would be like on regular TV.

If it ever sees the light of day on regular television, it will probably end up being a silent movie.
