From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025, D: Wiseman) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Re: From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025, D: Wiseman) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread
I finally caught up with this one, and I'm a little surprised by all the glowing remarks. I mean I guess I'm not that surprised, but still.
The last act was obviously the highlight, but I thought the way Keanu was shoehorned in was pretty obvious. His scenes were fine, I guess, but you could have cut them completely and it would not have changed the movie one iota. At the very least, they should have saved his reveal for the train.
Everything before that was just a soulless retread of the Wick franchise. De Armas is such a charismatic performer but I thought the movie did almost nothing to capitalize on it. It just kind of trudges along hitting only the most rote of story beats until you get to the mountain town. Only then does the movie show any life, but by that point I've mostly lost all interest in whatever is supposed to be happening.

For those wondering about the timing of events, this deleted scene clears up when exactly John Wick's second cameo occurs during the franchise timeline.

This is now available on Starz in case anyone has it and still hasn't seen it yet.
I bought the 4K disc and it came in a few weeks ago. Great looking disc with some decent extras.

I was pretty surprised by how good this movie is. The lead holds her own, has her own fighting style and believably kicks ass. Lots of ass.
John Wick is used just enough but also is used in an unpredictable way. The score is punchy and the sound will blow you away. Seriously one of the best Dolby Atmos tracks in recent years. It will rattle your neighbors' windows.
Some fantastic fight scenes and blends into the John Wick universe perfectly.
Sure, there are some ridiculous scenes but that is expected by now.
Extremely enjoyable and entertaining if you like these types of movies.
ps. Who knew a metal table and metal doors won't affect you with a grenade going off right on the other side of them?
I really liked it and will probably like it even more with repeat viewings. **** out of ***** for me.
