This isn't the HD DVD versus Blu-ray forum. This isn't a thread about Paramount.

Off-topic posts and in-fighting deleted.

Here's some info posted by Bill Hunt in the BD Insiders thread that I think many of you will enjoy:

"Universal is also planning the Back to the Future films for BD release (sometime next year would be the soonest)."

I never bought the DVD set because of that. I reached new heights in laziness by not wanting to look at the different skus or whatever it is we were suppsoed to look for.

That's awesome. We had to wait 5 years for it come out on DVD so next year would certainly be a treat.

I'd be looking forward to those along with the Jurassic Park movies next fall. Well, I'm just assuming since the new sequel is coming.

Ok Universal, you're Blu, now put more hi-def shows on BD. I would snag every season of The Office on BD, and probably Earl too.

FYI - Earl is Fox on home video, but I share the sentiment.

As mentioned before, Universal will do new transfers on a title by title basis on what they already released on HD DVD. Kris Deering posted on blu-ray.com that The Mummy films have new transfers. So these should show improvement, not to mention new DTS HD MA audio, which should blow away DD+.

Damn, I wasn't going to double dip on the Mummy flicks, but if that info is accurate, I'm going to have to!

any word on 'Dune'? the French import has a DTS-MA audio track.

I wonder when Universal is going to release The Island on Blu-ray, domestically. It never made it to HD DVD (in North America) and it's an ideal candidate for hi-def audio and video, especially since us Canadians only got 2.0 audio on the DVD release (which I never bought). If I had to hazard a guess, I'd bet that Universal would time this to be released at the same time Paramount releases a Transformers BD.

I dont think being directed by Michael Bay is enough of a connection to warrant this.

I thought The Mummys looked fantastic
I wonder if Universal was planning this anyway if they were still releasing on HD DVD to tie in with the new movie?

If Transformers BD takes until Transformers 2 then I disagree, I could see the studios unloading their Bay titles.

If you find yourself really jonesing for The Island on Blu you can get it on import.
It doesn't have lossless, but the PQ is very nice IMO.

The Island is Dreamworks, so it would be Paramount now.

Re: Universal's First BD Titles to Arrive on July 22nd!

Sorry for grave digging, but I've got a quick question for anyone who owns "End of Days." I picked it up today and when I opened it, I checked out the disc art. On literally every Universal Studios Blu-ray release, the little semi-circle thing at the bottom of the disc is blue with the Blu-ray logo and "Blu-ray Hi-Def" or "Blu-ray Disc" both white. This hasn't changed, regardless of the discs having art or not. Well with my copy of "End of Days," it's pretty much inverted. The logo and writing are blue and the semi-circle thing is silver like the bottom side of the disc. It's not a big deal, but kind of weird, and I want to know if they're all like this or if my disc is just off. Thanks in advance.

Universal abandoned disc art and changed the colors of the blu-ray logo. Its as simple as that. You think you got a bootleg or something?

Re: Universal's First BD Titles to Arrive on July 22nd!

I don't think it's a bootleg, and I know they abandoned disc art. This disc has disc art, but the bottom part of it with the Blu-ray logo is just different than any other Universal release I've ever seen, and I own nearly 100 Universal Blu-rays.

Here, I took a quick picture:

Normally, that area is blue with white or silver text, but here, it's silver, with blue text. Can anyone else take a picture of their disc, or at least look at it to help me out? I bought it from FYE brand new, so it should be legit, but you never know. And if mine is different than everyone elses, I'd like to know why.

I have that title and that's exactly how mine looks as well. I never noticed the Blu-Ray logo at the bottom looking like that until you posted that picture, I had to check mine as well to see. But, yeah, it's exactly the same.
