Dear Tower.com Customer

I got this email today. I opted-out as every order I placed with them was cancelled. I figure if they ever have any good sales they will mentioned on Dvdtalk but then they will probably be cancelled again.

The new owners don't know what the fuck they're doing. We had a great bunch of people working there who stuck it out after the B&M stores went under, but 10 of us were laid off at the end of March (I'm still looking for a new job) and the 5 or so who were left ended up leaving soon afterwards because the new contracts didn't include health benefits like they were getting before and nobody made it clear whether their jobs would even be secure. They already had a new office set up in Montreal, which is where all their phone calls and emails are being answered now. Call them and ask them to explain what happened to the people who used to answer the phone.

And FUCK YOU, Joe D'Amico! What company are you going to pretend to care about but really help put out of business next?

In that case by opting out I will get tons of email from them? I knew I should have just let it pass. I will just report their emails as spam. That will show them.

I've received at least three of these spams in the last 2 days.

Just goes to show how meaningless the "TRUSTe" certification is.

Dear Valued Customers: Please be advised that due to new fulfillment operations, if you have not placed an order since May 25, 2007, you will need to create a NEW Tower.com account to place an order.

So what's the deal with tower.com now? Are they still functional and all? They advertise as having the Wrong Men/Notorious Women CC set available "to ship within 2-4 weeks" for $89. I placed an order for the hell of it, hoping that maybe it'd actually work, but I haven't gotten an order confirmation email and my order number doesn't show up in My Account on their site.

Yeah, I unfortunately placed my first order with them about 10 days ago. 2 items listed as "in-stock", next day I got a shipment notice for one of them (haven't gotten it yet), and of course, my credit card was charged the full amount for both items.

Tower was purchased by caiman.com, who is notorious for listing DVDs they don't have and charging you before you get them.

Yes, I noticed a hold on my debit card's account. I'll just have to keep an eye on it and cancel it eventually... and until then I guess I'm just loaning them $89 free of interest. It should be illegal for retailers to charge you before your order has shipped.

I decided to try Tower.com because of its low prices on CDs, despite the bad word of mouth this site. I ordered 8 CDs and received them via DHL in less than 10 days (I used the free shipping). There were no problems, and I'll definitely use them again.

Update: The order I placed on 7/7 was received by me on 7/19 (using free shipping). The two things came in the same package, though I was led to believe they shipped at different times. So, not perfect, but I really can't complain.

I placed an order with www.Tower.com on April 21, 2008 and I got them today on
May 5th, 2008 and one of the movie items came unwrapped with a small crack in the case. The Item was "Here's Lucy" which comes with 4 dvds. The dvds looked alright so I am going to keep it becuase it would take me a month to get this item back from them if I sent it back to them. I have not had the best experience with www.Tower.com but sometimes they have great deals. Has anyone else experience anything like this before?
