Oh well. I'm still picking it up. Probably my favorite film outside of the Star Wars and Superman realm.

Was Hanks not happy with the other cut? This movie is one of my all time favourites...I'm not sure what they could add to it, other than maybe more performance stuff...I'll have to get it, but a DC on a movie I already think is damn near perfect is kind of troubling.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of this trend of only releasing an altered version of a film with a new transfer. You have to decide whether you want better quality video or the original cut. Do they think that improving the quality and adding extras is not enough, and people won't buy it if the film isn't different?

I love this movie but I'll stick with the version I have.

I'm in. One of the few Hanks movies I really liked.

I'm glad I held out and waited. This movie deserves some special features.

Nice that they are revisiting this. I thought it was gone forgotten.

Amazon has this up...it seems to indicate a two-disc set (if I'm looking at it correctly).

One of my favorite movies from college. Some of the best production design I had ever seen for a dramedy; it really had that early 60's feel. Plus, to see Hanks in the dual role of rookie Director and co-star as the no-nonsense music exec Mr. White was awesome. I remember HBO did one of their "Inside Looks" on the movie so I hope that is included on the set. I still have the Soundtrack on CD. I guess I will wait on the final specs, but I will probably double dip. And hey, Peter Scollari cameo in the movie-can't beat it.

An extra hour? That has to be a typo. I love the film and have no interest in double-dipping, UNLESS that extra hour is true.

I love this movie. The theatrical cut told the story artfully and economically; it was well-paced, gave the principal characters plenty of space, and didn't leave any important unanswered questions.

So I'm glad we already have a reasonably serviceable anamorphic DVD of that cut, which I'll certainly be keeping since this new edition apparently only includes this new, long version.

155 minutes? Even if all of the new material is worth watching, it's hard to imagine the film keeping it's buoyant pace at such an extreme length. It will be a very different movie. Seamless branching would sure seem like the way to go here, but it seems unlikely.

That said, I'm now really looking forward to it. A good commentary track will be most welcome, if it doesn't focus too much on the new material and too little on the making of the original film.

As I recall, nobody ever addressed the bass player by name, so he was credited as T. B. Player. What is this character's real name?

I'm sure that'll take an hour to cover.

I agree rdclark. Pacing if perfect, so holding on to the first is not a bad idea. I am definitely intrigued with an extra hour though.

I always took that as a running gag as most people don't remember the bass players in bands. Almost as if they are unimportant.

Looks great! And as with Big, many thanks to Fox for including the theatrical and extended versions. Doesn't say anything about running time, though, or which version will have the commentary. Either way, with this, Big and Mrs Doubtfire in May, Fox is putting a big smile on my face and allowing me to get rid of two non-anamorphic discs and get a significant upgrade, features-wise, on all three.
