Re-Releases blurb: Blues Brothers, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sound of Music NO DATES

From Davis DVD

DVD Re-Releases

With 2005 shaping up to be the year of the "anniversary edition" DVD, the studios are already looking into their catalogs to come up with more titles to milk. Universal Studios Home Entertainment is preparing to announce a Blues Brothers: 25th Anniversary Edition due in August, Hart Sharp Video will release the Frank Sinatra heroin drama The Man With the Golden Arm: 50th Anniversary Edition later this year, while Twentieth Century Fox is eyeing anniversary editions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (30th), The Sound of Music (40th), Oklahoma! (50th) and State Fair (60th) also for release later this year. Stay tuned for more news as it develops. Thanks to Home Media Retailing.

I already have the awesome 2 disc set of Rocky Horror. So a rerelease holds little interest for myself, especially if it's the same dvd(which is great and highly recommended for those who missed it!).

But I never got around to picking up The Blues Brothers, since the price was so high for years($30). Then once it was finally lowered,it disappeared quickly and went out of print before I could pick it up!

So a rerelease of that is a must buy, since it is one of my all time favorites

I never got around to the previous 2-disc of Sound of Music, since I've kinda of not been a fan of the film. Or honestly tried pretending I didn't like the film growing up. I'd love to review the film again and see if I truely do like it. Afterall,I avoided West Side Story for years since I thought it was 'stupid' and 'uncool'(man being a kid trying to fit in is pathetic!). But I ended up loving the film when I finally viewed it!

Please let the new Blues Brothers DVD include the theatrical cut.

Why revisit The Sound of Music? The 2-disc Five Star Collection already has an anamorphic transfer with dolby surround, a commentary track, two documentaries (one that's 36 minutes, another that's 87 minutes), a half hour audio supplement, interviews, storyboards, stills, sketches, trailers, radio and tv spots, special DVD-ROM features (such as site links and games), and everything else I could imagine a release needing...

Yeah, I guess I was just looking at it from a collector's perspective, not from the company's. Any time they can push sales on releases they've already got the material for, they may as well go for it. I was just surprised to see it listed whenever I picked up the Five Star not too long ago, and remembered it being a jam-packed release. Makes sense, though...but I can say for damn sure that I won't bother double-dipping.

The Sound of Music has one of the most reviled transfers in the history of the DVD format. I have a feeling that most collectors will be happy to have a new release if it features a redone transfer.

+ the 2-disc release has been OOP for awhile. I can only find the 1-disc release(usually in pan & scan only) at various retailers!

How about because the picture quality is BAD? I have the 5-Star Collection DVD - it's one of the most disappointing transfers due to excessive edge enhancement that I've seen. So much digital noise and ringing. Very distracting. I'd welcome a new transfer that is up to Fox's now-higher standards.

I might pick up a new RHPS disc if it had new (good!) features. Especially that 25th anniversary special that VH1 did. I have always wanted to see that again.

I'm glad the Blues Brothers is getting a new release since I sold off my copy because the Half/Ebay prices were too good to pass up. I figured eventually there would be another release.

Speaking of those 20th Century Fox OOP Five Star Collection releases, when are they ever going to re-release Speed in the new Collector's Edition Digipak case?

Independence Day and The Sound of Music were both FSC discs at first. Then it was decided to discontinue the FSC line, and they were reissued as single-disc editions. Now Independence Day and The Sound of Music are back out in the new two-disc Collector's Edition Digipaks that are exactly the same as the FSC releases.

I'm still waiting for Speed. I know I could pick up the Five Star Collection on eBay, and I have seen it on occasion around town, but when I know that a new release with new packaging COULD be in the works, and it will be every bit as good as a previous release, I prefer to wait.

I think they are prepping people for Rocky Horror again. I saw a large article in either premiere or entertainment weekly, they are running it on vh1 again, and that Barry Bostwick murder mystery was on cold case (or one of those shows)...I love the two disc set, and wonder what else they could do with it, but Rocky Horror fans are in no small supply so i'm sure they can sell it.
