That's the only thing that worries me. Although Amazon has been mistaken before.

If it is an anamorphic release, and keeps the bonuses from the previous edition, I'd pick it up.

Hmmmm...Already have the 2-disk Collector's Series edition of this AND the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection Box Set which has the first disk of the 2-disk CE of Nixon. Have to wait to see the bonus features for this edition. Didn't Stone already do 2 different commentary tracks for this film. Wonder if hes gonna do another one. I guess it wouldnt be too surprising considering he did 3 different commentaries on Alexander.

I saw that aspect ratio thing, too...but they would have to go to great lengths to do a pan-and-scan or non-anamorphic version for Blu-ray (even though "anamorphic" and "non-anamorphic" don't technically exist for HD content). I'm feeling pretty confident that the Blu-ray (and subsequently, the DVD) will finally be presented correctly.

Besides, according to the early specs, Disney is even bringing The Recruit to Blu-ray with its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio...they'll get this one right, too. Disney is great when it comes to their BD presentations, so this will be fine.

That's hilarious. And with that little tagline, I will be skipping this edition of the comically inaccurate NIXON by Oliver Stone.

History hasn't been too kind to Nixon even though he ended the war that JFK started.

Not a big fan of the packaging and f the only new extra is a 35 minute doc. then Ill definitely pass since I already own 2 copies of the film on dvd. The price is way too high on this as well.

I'm guessing you either dislike the movie or don't have an widescreen television. I own the old 2 disc release and am thrilled to finally get a completely remastered version of the director's cut. The old 2 disc version is non anamorphic and the deleted/extended scenes are totally misframed and look like shit.

I love the movie but I dont own a WS tv. It looks great to me.

So is this another new cut of the film. Theatrical was 192 mins, Director's Cut wat 212 min, and this states it is the "Expanded" Director's Cut with 28 additional minutes so would that make it 220 minutes? I love Stone's film but man this guy likes to tinker with movies more than George Lucas

Regardless, I thought this was a masterpiece and will happily replace my non anamorphic Director's Cut DVD with the Blu.

Nixon inherited Viet Nam and did what he could with a terrible situation. Bush started Iraq. There is no "repetition of history" here, at least not in the way Stone intends. History will repeat itself when "W" finally hits theaters and Stone is once again called to task by every responsible historian and biographer for his shoddy and irresponsible grasp of history.

Please don't insult Nixon by discussing "W". Nixon did far more with foreign affairs than "W" could ever hope or aspire to.

If this was coming from a right wing director, I think you could make the analogy that Bush inherited the effects of Clinton's mishandling of Al Qaeda much like Nixon inherited LBJ's mishandling of the Vietnam quagmire. Now of course LBJ wasn't mishandling things to take attention away from adulterous blow jobs in the Oval Office so the analogy isn't an exact pairing of situations. But of course, Stone is as far away from the right wing as you can get. He would probably say that Bush dealt with the after effects of Clinton's decisions and by the end of his term was bordering on impeachable actions much as Nixon was in the 70s.

This is a movie forum but I think this fits within the scope of this thread. If not for Watergate, wouldn't Nixon almost be considered the equal if not the superior to Reagan? I mean the guy got us out of Vietnam, he started into motion what became normal relations with Communist China, and as the result of the first two, did all the work to grease the skids in eastern europe which led to democratic movements in most of those countries. It still amazes me that of the four ELECTED presidents from 1961-1980 he is often rated as the worst. JFK was vastly overrated...his actions at the Bay of Pigs were one of the root causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis...in effect he cleaned up his own mess. LBJ was the one to escalate the Vietnam issue. It amazes me how he was the Democrat's GWB yet he gets a free pass in comparison to GWB. Of course LBJ had the Civil Rights Act but one could argue that it would happen regardless of who was president. Ford was not elected. Carter led us into the malaise of the late 70s and his bungled foreign policy directly led to the Iran we see today. I'm personally more of moderate Republican who grew up idolizing Reagan but even I would entertain an argument that Iran-Contra was Reagan's Watergate...and in some aspects, was much worse than Watergate since it dealt with breaking laws that dealt with foreign policy. Of course I-C would have never happened if not for Carter falling asleep on Iran.
