hmm,
i was expecting MGM, but it's coming from Warner?
I guess they have rights to a lot of old MGM material.
Uncut and Uncensored? hopefully.
I happened to catch a few episodes that were uncut
over on Cartoon Network Japan, where they didnt take out
"Stereotypes" from the current US broadcast ones.

My understanding was that after the last Warner chat, that they will be releasing the Tom and Jerry set in a golden collection set similar to the Looney Tunes.

They aren't "episodes", like a show on TV. These were shown in theaters, so they're all separate short films.
P.S.: With STL, this collection will just be 17 bucks even! What an awesome deal for 40 fully restored shorts!

If they release Tom and Jerry toons, let's hope that the shorts from the late 50s and 60s are preserved in their widescreen OAR; but those shorts don't have the quality the ones from the 40s did.

No there were more than 90. Here's the complete list of the Classic Era shorts: http://www.tomandjerryonline.com/episodes.cfm?era=hb - 114 in all... So we're looking at 3 2-disc sets.
What would also be cool, is if WB would release the remaining Tom and Jerry shorts as well. As you can see on the linked site, there were 13 Gene Deitch and 34 Chuck Jones shorts made after the initial 114 "classic" shorts, so that could very well be the 4th 2-disc set. And then there were 48 more shorts made in 1975 by Hanna-Barbera, which could be the 5th set (probably 3 discs this time).

As far as I know, the fully uncut Tom and Jerry shorts have never been released anywhere in any format. I trust Jerry Beck's work and that we will be finally able to watch Tom and Jerry in their complete original forms.

really hoping they release this uncut, ala the LD sets a few years back!

I have all the first two Tom & Jerry LD box sets from way back, and while I noticed some editing here and there (particularly the omission of a couple of glaring blackface gags), was wondering if anyone can confirm if those sets omitted any cartoons. I'd like to get rid of them in anticipation of the DVD set, but will hang on to them if they're otherwise complete just in case anything's missing on the upcoming collections.

I hope it has the musical ones like Johan Mouse or the Hungarian Rhapsody concert.
What exactly was censored? Was it mainly racial jokes?

They show the menu art, but still no word on which shorts will be present. Arrggg!!! The suspense is killing me.
And why, oh why, aren't we being treated to a Golden Collection? Why just a Premiere Collection?!

The set is now up for preorder at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002MFGCI/ - only $18.89, that's $17.00 with STL!
And it's not a "Premiere Collection". It's the "Spotlight Collection - Premiere Volume". So the next release will probably be a "Spotlight Collection - Second Volume"...

I don't understand the dark secret on withholding the shorts list for this set. You'd think they'd be proud - but if they're withholding the info because of the undesired reaction, they're dammnnnnn smaat! Because you know they never list the shorts on the back of the box!
Would you blind-buy this set? I probably would, God help me.
