That would be it. I have not viewed my copy in awhile however I seem to recall the transfer is very good. I also seem to remember there is one or two more deleted scenes.

What's the easiest/surest way to know if you have found the Canadian Alliance version?

Alliance is the studio for the Canadian version. Miramax for the US version.

The reason I ask is I have a Mirimax version (Mirimax Collector's Series) that on the back under "Specifications" it quite clearly states: "Widescreen (1.85:1) - Enhanced for 16x9 Televisions" on the back. Also, on the front it does not say "Widescreen" under the words "Mirimax Collector's Series" like it shows on sites such as DVD Empire.

They got rid of the reversible cover at least three years ago. Because I got it in '03 and it has the bilingual cover.

My Alliance copy has a nice white slip case with English only.

Cool, didn't know that. Before I consider placing an order from amazon.ca for a few other choice items, are there any other online retailers that might carry it for less expensive shipped?

I'm really confused now. I have an alliance version and on the back of the box it says widescreen letterbox.

I went to Amazon.ca and the cover of the alliance version they are now listing isn't the one that I have.

Are there 2 Alliance versions or did they change covers?

Or is my Alliance version anamorphic and just has bad info on the back? The version that I have has the title of the movie on the top of the box and then above that in a straight line across the top it says WIDE SCREEN. The version listed now from Alliance mentions academy awards noms at the top and bottom. I can't find a listing for my copy anywhere.

It also doesn't say at Amazon.ca whether it has the special features my mine including commentary with Van Zandt, Damon, and Affleck, 12 deleted scenes, producion featurette, music video, Behind the scenes footage, trailer, montage, tv commercials, and cast filmography.

It didn't say that the Alliance version was anamorphic, so I don't want to order another copy unless I can figure this out.

Can anyone clear this up?

Thanks.

My alliance cover looks like this:

Why don't you just play the disc and find out?

I got mine a long time ago and that's the cover that mine has. Mine also says "1.85:1 letterbox" on the back cover. However, the disk is anamorphic.

I had to check my Mirimax version, and though it claims to be anamorphic 16x9 on the back cover, sadly it is not.

I have no idea where my cover came from. It is not correct, and it does not match the normal Mirimax cover that I see anywhere else.

i have the alliance version, but could've sworn that miramax quietly updated their U.S. version to anamorphic, hence the confusion between the two U.S. versions. one has the word "widescreen" on the front top, and i think the later (updated) version removed it.

edit: i may have mis-remembered. maybe miramax just updated the sleeve but not the disc itself. i can't recall anymore, it's been so long.

Bill, your copy of GWH is legit. I have the same exact one.

It does indeed say Anamorphic on the back but the disc is not. Thanks Miramax/Buena Vista!!

Somewhere around 2001, they changed the cover. But you can barely tell. One of the best ways to tell is the spine. On the first version, the Good Will Hunting has a red underline. On the newer version, the Good Will Hunting has a yellow underline.

Weird I know.

I have followed all the GWH threads here and at HTF, and I have never, ever seen verification of an anamorphic GWH from Buena Vista. It was just a misprint, just like Judge Dredd, Metro, etc.

Also, my Alliance copy is the same as the other cover shown here under the slipcase. I got mine from Amazon.ca about 2 years ago, along with my Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
