Re: Elle (2016, D: Verhoeven) S: Huppert

Paul Verhoeven is back with "Elle", mostly a psychological drama that kicks off with a middle-aged woman, Elle (Isabella Huppert) in the midst of being assaulted (phyisically and sexually) in her own...

re: Hidden Figures (2017 D: Theodore Melfi) S: Henson, Spencer, Monae, Costner

I enjoyed it. Math and Science > Racism.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

Re: Patriots Day (2016, D: Berg) S: Wahlberg, Goodman, Bacon, Simmons, Monaghan

I thought, ultimately, it was an engaging look at the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, and what was involved in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

Saw 'The Revenant' and all I have to say is that it'll be a crying shame if that grizzly bear doesn't get a Best Supporting Bear Actor nomination!!!!

As movie-goers, we are often asked implicitly...

Re: Baywatch (D: Gordon) S: The Rock, Efron, Daddario

Bella Thorne's curves kicked in this past year, I'd consider her for any sequel-initiated casting needs.

It's a shame Alice Eve is probably also 5-7 years too old nowadays.

Re: Baywatch (D: Gordon) S: The Rock, Efron, Daddario

5-7 years ago, Adrienne Palicki might have been an okay choice for CJ, but she's also more tall and lanky, than curvy.

Not sure about her acting chops with humans, but Hannah Davis had great...

Re: Baywatch (D: Gordon) S: The Rock, Efron, Daddario

Heh, I still remember when Daddario as Kate on "White Collar" and thought she had the curves for WW back then, but I guess she wasn't tall enough.

Re: Carol (2015, D: Haynes) S: Blanchett, Mara, Paulson, Chandler

This is probably one of those films that came out 10 years too late. The production values and attention to details are top-notch, but the story of forbidden love from a time period that kept it in...

Re: Joy (2015, D: David O. Russell) S: Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Bradley Coop

I thought this was a boring film, though the script hoped that the weird family dynamics would earn it some interest from the viewing audience.

I felt Jennifer Lawrence needed to be another 5-10...

Re: How many times will you see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the theater?

Probably the AMC Prime presentation, though the IMAX 3D almost filled my field of view (even from the back row) but had less contrast and softer black levels, and no butt-kickers in the recliners...

Re: Post Your Top 10 of 2015

I don't really have a top 10 yet (still a few more films to catch up on), but here are some films that I could stomach watching again from 2015:

Inside Out
The Martian
Mission: Impossible...

Re: How many times will you see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the theater?

Saw it 3 times, once in RealD 3D, once in IMAX 3D, and once in AMC Prime with Dolby Cinema and Laser Projection.

Re: The Big Short (2015, D: McKay) S: Bale, Gosling, Pitt, Carell, Tomei

"Waiting is the hardest part." LOL! That sums up the thesis of the movie for me. :D

I thought it was okay, with 3 main subplots of those who tapped into the mess that led into the financial...

Re: The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Prime) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 11/20/1

I'm ambivalent on this show. It just felted too padded, like 4 episodes too padded, so not as high on the show as others.

Re: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (Lawrence, 2015) -- The Reviews Thread

Mockingjay Part 2 was also too long and plodding for a lot of its running time. Has the pacing of a money grab, unfortunately.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.

Re: Spectre (Mendes, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I thought it was okay, slower than expected, longer than needed.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.

Re: The Martian (Scott, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I thought it was a solid film, with some odd casting (yes, the Wiig casting was simply odd, she didn't really bring anything to the table, I'm probably stereotyping her, though, but I didn't feel as...

Re: Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

Has it really been 7 seasons already? The mysterious Kate angle is played out for me at this stage of the show.

Re: SYTYCD / So You Think You Can Dance -- Season 12 "Stage vs. Street" (Starts 06/01

I can't stand the 3-person dance routines, can't focus on any of the 3 dancers well. Been meh on this season, no one super-rootable yet.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (McQuarrie, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Very entertaining installment of the M:I franchise. McQuarrie (writer/director) had a good handle on the plot turns and the requisite action and spycraft motifs the audience expects in this sort of...
