Re: Carl Reiner dead at 98

Yep, nothing to do with him at all except for the show being created by him and the episodes guest-starring him.

Re: Stargirl (CW/DC Universe) -- from EP: Johns, Berlanti -- premieres 5/18/20

Another great episode. The Shining Knight! Talk about your deep cuts.

Re: Da 5 Bloods (2020, D: Spike Lee) — Netflix

Best movie of the year so far (OK, it's a weird year, admittedly). Yeah, it's sprawling and busy, but I find Spike's approach works well on a statement about how America continues to wrestle with its...

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 10/8/19

Don't post shit on social media you wouldn't say to your grandmother, I always say. I have to admit I finally gave up on regularly watching the show this season as well, so no big loss IMHO.

Re: Stargirl (CW/DC Universe) -- from EP: Johns, Berlanti -- premieres 5/18/20

Second episode lot of fun too. The budget for this seems sky-high compared to the penny-pinching on some of the other CW shows, although I guess that won't last. S.T.R.I.P.E. looks great.

Re: Stargirl (CW/DC Universe) -- from EP: Johns, Berlanti -- premieres 5/18/20

I enjoyed this more with its lack of Arrowverse baggage. Tons of fun seeing the classic JSA in action, and Stargirl and Stripesy seem very well cast so far.

Re: Fred Willard dies at 86

I don't think there was a better character actor working these days. He stole pretty much every scene he appeared in. Just a day or two ago I marvelled at him as a clueless history teacher when I was...

Re: Midsommar (2019, D: Ari Aster) -- S: Pugh, Poulter, Reynor, Harper

Finally saw this, loved it, even at nearly 3 hours in director's cut it didn't drag. Less graphic than I expected, but geez it's haunting. Very, very strange dreams last night...

Maybe I'll give...

Re: Hunters (Amazon) -- Al Pacino hunting Nazis -- EP: Jordan Peele -- premieres 2/21/20

Holy crap. We enjoyed this show in a kind of cheesy, action filled way, but god almight did that last episode completely jump the shark. Knocked the entire series down several notches for me.

Re: Best Tier 2 Arnie movie ?

My kid and I watched Predator and Running Man as a double-feature recently. They're both fun, but boy, Predator shows what a good director can do - RM is more a cheesy entertainment, but Predator...

Re: Has there been a miscast character in Marvel’s MCU?

I've enjoyed the movies but I'm not actually a huge fan of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. He captures some of the qualities of the comics character but not all - he's not really a geek or an outcast, he...

Re: Typically, do you see more movies in theater or at home?

Usually watch 4-5 movies a week at home. Might get to the theaters once every 6-8 weeks or so during the pre-plague days, except during film festival season.

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Et in Arcadia, Ego Part 2 (S1E10) - 3/26/20

A rocky first season, but I liked it more than Discovery generally. Main problem, not enough Picard in Picard I thought, and too much wheel-spinning plotwise (the entire series seemed to be about a...

Re: The Plot Against America (HBO) - C: David Simon - S: Turturro, Ryder, Kazan - premieres 3/16/20

I’m a big fan of the novel and Roth’s work in general but the first episode of this was pretty snoozy. Everyone seemed to be sleepwalking through it. John Turturro is the only one who really sparked.

Re: Color Out of Space (2020, D: Stanley) S: Cage, Richardson, Arthur, Hilliard, Meyer

Saw this last night and quite dug it. It’s damn near impossible to capture Lovecraft’s tone on screen, but Stanley makes a good show of it and the “cosmic horror” is pretty trippy. I like how they...

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Absolute Candor (S1E4) - 2/13/20

I hope they pick up the pace a bit. After a great first episode it feels the next 3 have all been about getting the mission started. It’s a decent watch but needs a little more zest. And I’ve yet to...

Re: Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (Yan, 2020) — The Reviews Thread

I wonder when the last time a movie's flop was blamed so extensively on its title... (I didn't think Edge of Tomorrow was an awful title, btw)

Re: RIP Kirk Douglas

Huge fan, and even though it’s not a shock when someone is 103, I’m still sad to see him go.

Of all his movies, I’ve got to go with Ace In The Hole as my fave. Tonight I watched 1949’s “Champion”...

Re: The Good Place (NBC): The Fourth and Final Season -- premieres 9/26/19

Beautiful ending. I don't get all weepy over shows usually but that finale really got me in the feels.

Re: Arrow (CW) -- The 8th and Final Season -- Premieres 10/15/19

Nope, he began publicly calling himself Green Arrow in the Season 4 premiere. Before that he was “The Hood” and then the Arrow. They got there eventually. ;)
