Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I'm not an expert on calibration but I often have a difficult time discerning image quality. What looks really good on my Toshiba 32" 720p HDTV looks pixelated on my Dynex 46" 1080p HDTV. What looks...

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Every town seems to have at least one opportunist who spoils the fun by wiping-out the shelves and then making countless attempts to abuse the return policy system for a buck or two.

Re: So what's holding you back from 4K?

All of the above. It's not money per-se but switching to 4K UHD just lacks the sense of added value. Secondly I'm choosing not to find myself in a repeating pattern of discontentment and spending...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

This is the rainbow-chasing mentality many of us suffer from. No matter what cutting-edge 4K UHD system we have in our homes, the professional-grade theatrical experience will always be several steps...

Re: Redbox to rent 4K UHD discs

I wondered that too. I always thought if you rented a disc and didn't return it after 30 days, you "bought" it for $29.95.

Re: DVD Rot ?

I found a couple of new defects in my collection:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) 2-Disc MGM set 16:9 anamorphic. This will play on some machines but crap-out halfway through, some players...

Re: The Karate Kid -- 35th Anniversary Edition -- 4K UHD -- 4/16/19

This was made back in the era when the big studios could make a good character-driven story aimed at a youth audience. They could have substituted karate for ping-pong and still had a good movie!

Re: Cheap RCA Projector

Apparently Epson is in the process of suing Curtis and Technicolor (RCA) for their exaggerated claims of 2,000 lumens for their value-line of RCA projectors.

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I recall the early days of the "Ma & Pa" video stores before the corporate giants took over and how quaint their business model was at the time. A hit movie like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" might have...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I just read that Microsoft's eBook store is closing and taking all of your purchases down with it. It sounds like they will refund your money but your collection is gone.
Interesting debate about...

Re: HMV Hong Kong goes out of business

I'm surprised Japan (and Hong Kong) would be a country where people still buy vinyl and CDs. With their major urban centres being so expensive and square footage so limited, I thought they would...

Re: eBay sellers confusing location information

It's just the nature of the global economy - anyone can be from anywhere. Many international sellers can place a US address as their location because instills more confidence from US buyers.

Re: Redbox to rent 4K UHD discs

Redbox hasn't been a thing in Canada since they pulled out of the market back in 2015. I guess it's still operating in the U.S.

Re: Redbox to rent 4K UHD discs

It's funny what our perception of what costs too much money these days. In the mid-1980s a VHS rental of a new release from the typical ma-and-pa video store was $3.00. Thirty years later $2.50 is...

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains

I just walked into the local Dollarama in Richmond, BC and it looks like they have a large selection of Blu-rays and DVDs for $3 after a fairly long drought.

Blu-rays:

Seabiscuit (w/ slipcover)...

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

It's funny when you think most people switched from CDs to streaming because:

"CDs are too bulky."

"CDs are too expensive"

"CDs are not portable."

"CDs can scratch easily."

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

We really don't know how the pricing structure will work once everything is digital. Right now the studios want to entice consumers with the digital product and are willing to cut the prices...

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

I think there is always a misconception that a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) 2K theatrical presentation with a resolution of 2048 X 1080 is just slightly better than Blu-ray which is 1920 X 1080....

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

That will forever be the free-market conundrum; sellers want to sell for the most amount of money and buyers want to pay the least amount of money.

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

iTunes prices are $4.99 for a streaming rental or $14.99 to $19.99 for an "owned" download. I can see why the industry wants to go all-digital.
