Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Yes, but the South and West was doing just fine until a month ago. The low income people mostly stayed at home during the lockdown, and then when they returned to work they brought it home and...

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Yeah, I can agree with all that. Discouraged would have been a better word than taboo in my case.

I think it would be naive to think that very few cases resulted from the protests. It was an...

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

It's basically taboo to publicly say the protests had any effect on covid cases. Same goes for mainstream media.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Georgia up to 4,500 cases today, 1,000 more than their previous record.

Just to put that into perspective. Florida has 6x the population of Georgia, Texas 9x and California 14x.

They were doing...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

I know this is the covid thread, but just want to comment about what was said about voting or not voting for Trump.

First, I think most of his base will vote Republican no matter what, just for...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Actually 60 to 70 percent has been the most common accepted range, and has been around since March. Scientists just ran with it and didn't question it. How are they to know better? The virus was so...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Yes, and the 70% to 90% herd immunity threshold is one of them.

Re: COVID-19 & Education Thread

The next stimulus package really needs to allocate some major covid funding to get schools open and safe. Also this would include funding for daycare during the time that schools hours are cut...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

No, nothing is certain. But keep in mind that immunity is not just from having antibodies but also memory T-cells. The latter could be more robust in the long term.

Re: COVID-19 & Education Thread

Do a google search for schools and daycares that have been open in other countries and educate yourself.

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Well it's like if a superspreader becomes immune, then that drops the infection rate a lot more than if some poor victim in a nursing home gets taken out of the pool. Not saying people living in...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

It also protects others wherever they go. The theory is that those who get it first are also the ones most likely to spread it. The people living in por, high density housing, also tend to work in...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

As I said, it's not so much the overall average herd immunity built up in a metropolitan area (such as the estimated 20% in New York), but the distribution. The hardest hit areas, the highest risk...

And they all accomplished this feat in around 6 weeks. What a coincidence I must say.

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Never use 3 day rolling average for deaths. You get that sawtooth look. Use 7 day. Deaths are always underreported on the weekend and Tuesday is always the highest day and gradually declines through...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

It will be interesting to see how long these spikes last in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California. They all started around the same time, just under 3 weeks ago. If they follow the same timeline...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Sorry I wasn't clear, but I meant that there has been a herd immunity benefit or silver lining to all these cases (now and before). Seems rather coincidental than nearly all of these places...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Well Sweden's covid numbers can be seen on any data tracker, and the trends there are very positive, so I assume you mean the effectiveness of partial herd immunity?

I'm sorry, but that's a very...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

What medical "facts" regarding immunity and herd immunity are there for covid? It's all speculation. Please don't go masquerading ABC.com and NYtimes opinion pieces as facts, because they are not.

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Sweden is actually not doing bad right now. Cases are down by more than half the last few weeks and death are very few: only 3 per day.

Many people believe, myself included, that the areas and...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

I also agree that people living in cramped conditions contributed to the spread. In fact, that is the main cause everywhere. It just happened first in NYC (in the U.S. anyway). The infection...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

I knew that you would dismiss it, but felt that too many important points were made to not post it. At least for those who bother to read it and absorb the info. But yeah, go ahead and continue to...
