Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

I have to admit, I totally failed. I was much busier at work than I anticipated and had some family events that took more of my time. Next year, I hope to delve into Criterion again, though!

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

Well, worth the ask at least. I really feel like challenge participation overall has gone way down. Participation in threads is lower than previous years too.

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

Well, I think the overlap is more like a week and a half with comedy and holiday since holiday starts with Turkey Day and comedy doesn't end until the 1st. Holiday is the longest challenge I believe...

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

November is comedy challenge with a hefty crossover with holiday starting on Thanksgiving (around Thanksgiving? can't remember off hand). Might be something to bring up in the Challenge Compendium...

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

I have to admit, I haven't started yet and may not. After 2 months of hosting, I'm a bit movie'd out and enjoying my break and catching up on TV.

Though, I was just watching Criminal Minds, season...

Re: Disney Movie Rewards - What did YOU get?

During the earlier sale in August, I picked up Bambi II BR, Toy Story of Terror DVD and Walt Disney Short Films Collection BR. After I saw this thread yesterday and redeemed for The Three Musketeers...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

There's a lot of animation that crosses over if you wanted to try leaning more towards the Criterion challenge at the same time..

Wow, that's a pretty good challenge! Congrats!

Thanks!

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Until next year!

I keep on hearing good things about this. I'm getting more and more tempted by a Netflix subscription-if only for a month or two!

Thanks! Glad you got a lot watched this...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Last night of the challenge! Hope they are good watches...I'm down to one last one that I'll pop in in a minute, April and the Extraordinary World. Saw a preview for it on one of the films I rented...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Good to know! It sounds like an interesting watch so I'm hoping I like it.

As the challenge comes to an end, I just wanted to remind everyone that the 31st is crossover day. Looks like the...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Thanks for understanding!

Yeah, me either.

Just finished Mirai. It was alright, but out of the four movies of his I've seen so far, (this one, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

I know I just posted, but thought I'd make this a separate post to be a bit easier to spot. Earlier in the challenge, I mentioned I contacted GoldenWheels about prizes, but still have not heard back...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Spiderverse was a slog, but I did get to a point where I was enjoying it somewhat. But that's very true, sometimes you just can't get into something, even when you think you should!

I actually got...

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

I watched it last month for the first time and no, it didn't get better for me. Was not a fan at all, really. I'm glad I was able to check it off my "to see" list, but it was a tough one to slog...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

I watched two new to me movies tonight. The first, Boy& the World, is a Brazilian made movie. Virtually no dialogue, though what is spoken is Portuguese backwards. It is animated with very bright...

Re: 2019 Criterion Challenge Discussion Thread

Thanks, Travis! Looks like there are a couple that are listed already, but most of them seem like they are new (or new to the crossover list!) I'll post it over in the Animation Challenge as well.

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

I appreciate Fantasia but it's not in my top 10 Disney either. The Sorcerer Mickey bit is pretty iconic, but it definitely gets dark in places. I totally agree about Alice in Wonderland being up...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

This Bambi sequel had him as a fawn still, right after his mom, well, you know. (I'll skip the spoiler because I'm pretty sure most people know what happened there.) It was alright, focusing on him...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

For me, streaming is a backup. I'm tired and lazy and don't want to get up and find a disc? I flip to Vudu/Prime and see what catches my eye. I'm traveling and have a yen to watch something? Pull up...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Well, I'd likely never pick it up again and especially as this is a digital film, I doubt I'd have remembered to go back to it.

I was tempted to do this...but in the end, I decided to give it...

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

So, I started a movie yesterday and got twenty minutes into it. I ended up turning it off because I just couldn't focus on it. I wasn't enjoying it. It wasn't horrible, but even though the type of...

Dr. Strangelove, perhaps? Somehow I don't see Disney giving permission for someone else to make money off of Marvel!

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!

Watched Mary and the Witch's Flower tonight and really enjoyed it. While not from the Studio Ghibli, it is of the same quality. I believe the director was one of the lead animators for Ghibli at one...

Re: Disney Movie Rewards - What did YOU get?

I took advantage of the sale myself. Had about 4500 points, I'm still sitting at over 3100. I redeemed for Bambi II, A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa, Toy Story that Time Forgot and Walt Disney...
