Re: That Ď90s Show (Netflix) - sequel series with Kitty and Red - premieres 1/19/23

I watched the first three episodes. It's great to see the old characters again, and the kids get a little better in each episode. It's pretty much what I expected.

I'll watch at least two more...

Re: Jeff Beck, Guitarist With a Page in Rock History, Dies at 78

I finally got around to picking up Blow by Blow and Wired over the last week (parts of two orders through Discogs). Such odd timing.

He was a great player. A true legend. This is a total...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

Yeah, I saw Buddy Rich there at least twice (the last time in '85 if I remember right). I also saw him at the San Diego Zoo, playing their amphitheater. The place was packed, and his set was...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

This is a great re-interpretation of (even then) an old standard. It starts off slow and mellow, and becomes something really cool. Great dynamics, and some fantastic flute playing. Great stuff...

Re: That Ď90s Show (Netflix) - sequel series with Kitty and Red - premieres 1/19/23

This looks good. No way will it be as great as That 70's Show, but, IMO, That 70's Show is an all time great, so if it falls short and is merely good, fun, and entertaining? That's enough for me. ...

Re: Kirstie Alley dead at 71

She'll always be Saavik to me. I also liked her in Runaway with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons.

In real life she was no holds barred outrageous with her personality. It's like she had no filter,...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

Here's the thing - there were no recordings of anything prior to the late 1920's. No way to watch or listen to popular entertainment from the past.

NOW? I've got hundreds of old movies from the...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

I'm a big fan of Don Menza. Great composer and arranger, but also a great sax player...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

I like trios a lot, as well as combos, but, man, for me the Big Bands topped them all. The power and energy of a Big Band was like the Heavy Metal of Jazz. When you had a Big Band wailing it was...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

Absolutely the sheet music and continued performances of pieces of music that were considered to be outstanding kept it alive. People still wanted to hear good music. And it was harder to hear music...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

The way things are going now? A ton of it!

Music from the 20th Century is more popular today than current music is. Modern music has no staying power.

But the most artistically...

Re: Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

Another great band was Woody Herman's Thundering Herd. Woody was actually a big star in the late 30's to the late 40's, and had a ton of Top 20 hits, including a #1.

This is something from his...

Some of the greatest music ever, and it's been largely forgotten.

Some of the greatest musicians ever to pick up an instrument were Jazz musicians. Some of the greatest composers and arrangers to ever put pen to paper to write music were Jazz musicians. Some of the...

Re: Ronnie James Dio would have been 80 today!

Dreamers Never Die is fantastic. Not perfect, but really, really good and what is there is great. It's what isn't there that I was bummed about - but, the problem is, to include everything I wanted...

Re: Kevin Conroy - The Voice of Batman - dead at 66 (2022)

No question that he was THE voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne. A great voice actor.

Gone way too soon.

Re: She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (S1E09) - Season Finale - "Whose Show is This" - 10/13/22

She-Hulk was in the Avengers in the comics, even with her fourth wall breaking in her own comic. Bruce/Hulk appears on her show, within MCU continuity.

She can absolutely be in the next Avengers...

Re: She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (S1E09) - Season Finale - "Whose Show is This" - 10/13/22

OK, I liked the entire season a lot, but I absolutely LOVED the last two episodes. This one was spot on with what a She-Hulk show should be.

To those of you who think she shouldn't be breaking the...

Re: She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (S1E08) - "Ribbit and Rip it" - 10/6/22

OK, I loved this episode. For me, it was the best episode so far. So good. They did a great job with Matt. He's still dark, but he's got a sense of humor to balance that out. That's not a bad thing,...

Re: DIO - Dreamers Never Die (Documentary)

Interesting. It played at about 10 theaters within driving distance for me.

But, yeah, it will definitely get a Blu Ray release. That's an automatic pre-order for me!

Re: DIO - Dreamers Never Die (Documentary)

Looks like it was a limited release - 2 days, one showing at each location per day.

My bet is that this shows up on Blu Ray/DVD and a streaming platform soon.

Re: DIO - Dreamers Never Die (Documentary)

I went to see this today, and the theater was about 75% full. That was nice to see.

The movie itself is very good. It's a really interesting story, and a rather unique one in the music business...
