Re: Best Albums of 2013

Top 10 albums of 2013

1. Foals - Holy Fire
I knew when I heard this in the beginning of the year it would most likely be my #1. It has a great mix of styles and the Foals have totally found...

Re: Best Albums of 2012

Thanks auto,
Good job on kicking the thread off. I gotta check out that Divine Fits album, I like Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade, Moonface so I don't know how this slipped past me.

Re: Best Albums of 2011

Man, I just heard the Yuck album for the first time. Somehow I totally just missed out on listening to it last year. So damn good. Like Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, & Built to Spill put together.

Re: Best Albums of 2011

I never miss the good ole DVD Talk end of year list. Here's mine.

1. Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
This is one huge album concept wise and sound wise. This kinda brought me back to the good ole...

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I just finished the game also, and as previously mentioned was let down. I found the gameplay pretty repetitive and the story just not engaging enough. It just felt like you would go to place to...

Re: KMFDM - Blitz

I really don't like WTF?!, or at least I haven't found songs I really like on it. I will try out the songs again you mentioned though.

Re: The Joy Formidable

Yeah I saw them live a couple weeks ago in NYC. They definitely are louder live than on the album which is great. Closing with Whirring with that big inflatable cat thing was pretty epic.

Re: Big Love #53 "Where Men and Mountain Meet" SERIES FINALE 3/20/11

hah well when you put it that way, the drama is inevitable. It's just with previous seasons they mixed in at least some light hearted quirkiness to break it up here and there. I did like how in...

Re: Big Love #53 "Where Men and Mountain Meet" SERIES FINALE 3/20/11

I really disliked this season, I just got tired of every episode being a huge drama. The finale for me went the obvious way I thought, especially with all the emphasis on Barb with the priesthood...

Re: Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)

Pitchfork gave it a 7.9 which I think is too high.
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15149-the-king-of-limbs/

I would of given it like a 6.3'ish.
I do agree with some comments in the review...

Re: Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)

yeah I would say the length isn't the #1 issue with the album. I think this time they went too far deep into their own genre that they created for themselves.

Re: Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)

Wow big Yawn on this one. 8 songs, I guess that's an album? This sounds like a Thom Yorke album with very minimal Radiohead instrumentation. It's very quiet and none of the songs are standing out...

re: The White Stripes have officially broken up / are defunct [merged]

eh, doesn't bother me too much. I appreciated the genius of the White Stripes simplicity but I enjoy the Dead Weather much more.

Re: The most crazy-awesome music video you'll see this week - Eskmo's "We Got More"

agreed, this is some pretty awesome eye candy.
Thanks for the heads up on it.

The director Cyriak does some pretty cool weird stuff in general, with kinda the same themes.

Re: Top 10 Albums of 2010 - Post Your List!

Best Coast is pretty good, I wouldn't say they are outstanding but it's pretty good for chick fronted surf rock. They're touring with Wavves which is a good combo. Titus Andronicus has some pretty...

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

For some reason I never even heard the Chameleons. Just listened to a few tracks and I am digging it, they definitely had some influence on the Editors and the Horrors.

ah I still gotta listen to this, but I enjoyed the Julian Plenti album more so than any of the previous Interpol album except Bright Lights.

Re: Arcade Fire: The Suburbs - Aug 3, 2010

alrighty, and it's obvious you aren't included in the "we" and I made a mistake by using such an encompassing word.
The only reason I brought up the album was from the BBC quote.

"You could call...

Re: Arcade Fire: The Suburbs - Aug 3, 2010

well not for you, but it did for others here and there.

I just don't think that this is their masterpiece, there's not new territory with this album, just heavy influences of the past.
