Re: Do you watch older movies that return to the theatre for a "special" engagement?

I saw the Fathom Events presentation of Star Trek: The Next Generation 2-part episode, "The Best of Both Worlds". I regret nothing.

Re: Clerks III (D: Kevin Smith)

I've never thought KS was that bad a comedy filmmaker. I revisit and quote his movies every so often. He's not Kubrick behind the camera, but I'm there for the characters and dialogue, not to fret...

I remember him saying at a Q & A in 2009 saying that in Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma that he poured his guts out on film. After that, he said that he had nothing to say.

But, you know what? You...

Re: Clerks III (D: Kevin Smith)

Kevin Smith gets way too much flack. I've never seen the Cheech and Chong movies, the Harold and Kumar movies, the American Pie movies, Porky's, ect. held to so stringent, unforgiving standards....

Re: Clerks III (D: Kevin Smith)

Why does there need to be a Clerks III? Clerks II ended on such a happy, satisfying note. Let Dante and Randall be happy.

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

The Democrats haven't learned anything from 2016. "Let's run a bland moderate again!" Joe Biden is the new Hillary Clinton.

Re: The Man Who Fell to Earth (based on 1976 movie) -- ordered to series by CBS All-Access

No. Just no. TMWFTE was a subversive parable about the corruption in the heart of the human experience. It's a deeply sad story. Do you honestly think there's going to be any of that with Alex...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

^^
I would prefer Dr. Crusher and Guinan make an appearance since they were close to Picard. It would be more apropos than having a characters from other shows being shoehorned in.

Re: Jay & Silent Bob Reboot (2019, D: Kevin Smith)

This.

Also, he tried to "grow up" with Jersey Girl and got savaged for it. Chasing Amy and Dogma are head and shoulders above Smith's usual fare, but he said that the extent what any substantial...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

And those three shows weren't as popular or iconic as TOS and TNG otherwise they would have left them open-ended.

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

Seriously? Trek was a huge cultural phenomenon before DS9 was created. Gene Roddenberry created 2 of the most iconic television shows ever created.

DS9 (while a fine work of television) and the...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

This is a long shot hope, but I hope that Star Trek: Picard becomes a smash hit and it inspires a final TNG movie to wrap things up in a satisfying way like Star Trek VI did in 1991 (complete with a...

Re: Star Trek: The Motion Picture: Is it, well, good?

I was fortunate enough to watch this on the big screen a few years ago. It makes a big difference and a lot of the scenes that some say are boring on home video take on a wondrous quality on the big...

That's beautiful. You totally get the appeal of Roddenberrian Star Trek.

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Tarantino, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I'd say that goes to Jackie Brown. I would have said this movie, until the end.

Re: Tv Series’ You’re Glad They Ended

The Sopranos

I got tired of hearing how it was the greatest work since Shakespeare. Fuck that over-hyped, overrated, mafia-glorifying tripe.

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

Doesn't the new trailer give off a kind of Firefly-like vibe? The mystery woman with combat powers that the bad guys (who seem to be from some shadowy organization) are after sounds a lot like River...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

I'm on the fence about this one. If you take away Picard, Data, and Seven, how many of us would be enthusiastic to watch this? It seems like another action-filled, idea-free incarnation of Trek. I...

Re: Does a bad series finale ruin an otherwise great multi season show?

What about the finale to Quantum Leap? The show teased us for five seasons and stoked our hope that Sam would make it home...and then that final card at the end. The final episode itself was poetic...
