Re: "The Monster Club" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

I love this flick. The New Wave songs between the stories take me back to my college days.

Re: "Wolfen" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

I chose this because it checked so many subset boxes (NYC setting, based on a novel, subjective camera and so forth). It's an entertaining flick, even if the screenplay is incoherent (are the Wolfen...

Re: "Color Out of Space" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

The opening lines are Lavinia reciting one of the invocations Christopher Lee uses in The Devil Rides out, so you can tell where Stanley's POV is coming from. TCOOS is a terrific adaptation of one...

Re: "Under the Skin" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

Under The Skin is a brilliant piece of horror/ sci-fi that is commenting (I think) on the performative nature of gender and what defines us as human. The alien in a ScarJo suit is harvesting men for...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I really enjoyed the blend of horror and comedy in Ready Or Not. It's not that gory, except for when the bad guys all explode as the sun rises

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I'm skeptical of anything reported on Facebook, so I googled and . . . you're right. Unbelievable. The Charlie Brown specials are an American television tradition. Putting them on an online...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

John Badham's decision to de-saturate the color from his 1979 remake of Dracula is an unmitigated disaster. It doesn't look like a Universal black and white classic; it looks murky and muddy. A shame...

Re: "Dagon" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

Despite the title, Dagon is sourced from The Shadow Over Innsmouth, about a secretive New England village whose inhabitants are hybrids of humans and the Deep Ones. At the short story's climax, the...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

You guys should check out Sputnik if you can. It's a Russian film set in 1983 about a cosmonaut inhabited by a carnivorous space parasite. It has strong performances and a terrific slow burn buildup....

I've been using DVDProfiler from Invelos.com to catalog my movies for years. It's a one-time paid app.

Re: "Frenzy" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

Frenzy is Hitchcock's last good film (Family Plot is sad), and in my opinion it's a late period masterpiece. In the permissive 70s, Hitch's depictions of sexual violence drew critical praise when...

Re: "The Devil Rides Out" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

TCM shows this every October and I never miss it. It's so rare for Lee to have a heroic role when he usually plays monsters in Hammer films. I need to spring for the Scream Blu, but I know if I bite,...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I think I need to watch The Fly this month. I ordered the Scream Factory box set from Amazon, but it may not get here until November

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

It occurs to me that I should have watched The Mask for Pandemic Night. It's not exactly horror, but I'm going to Wild Card it this month for the title alone.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

How about The Ghost and Mr. Chicken? It's a 60s horror comedy with Don Knotts that has just enough spooky atmosphere to be gently scary. It has zero violence, zero nudity, one or two harmless "it's a...

Re: "Zombieland: Double Tap" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

I second everything Undeadcow says. The first movie was a fun goof 11 years ago, but in the age of COVID and Trump, the targets here (vegans, hippies) seem completely out of whack to work as satire....

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

For today's theme I watched #Alive on Netflix. It's a pretty decent zombie flick. A video gamer, Jun-U, wakes up to discover his family has gone out and the zombie apocalypse has begun in Seoul. I...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Howl is awesome, but yes, Dollar Tree flicks can be dire.

I found this on YouTube and thought it might get folks in the holiday mood.
