Re: Gremlins started the little creatures/monsters movie genre

Not quite. Night Skies (which has its own Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Skies ) was the unproduced film that directly inspired E.T. and Poltergeist. Chris Columbus conceived...

Re: Gremlins started the little creatures/monsters movie genre

Ghoulies and Critters were both conceived before Gremlins came out actually.

Ghoulies was filmed right before Gremlins came out in the spring of 1984, and Critters was conceived back around 1981.

Re: So I got a new computer and downloaded a newer version of MAME.

Yeah, I've got three different builds of MAME myself for this very reason.

On a related note, mapping controls on MAME is a freaking bitch. Any tips?

Wish there was a how-to wiki on MAME.

Lawsuit against the Internet Archive

This is pretty scary.

This guy breaks down how four of the biggest book publishers are suing the Internet Archive over a legally dubious ebook lending program:

Re: DC Comics Cuts Ties with Diamond

I can't find anything to suggest that any of WB's animation-related operations are being directly impacted by the downsizing. Where are you are getting that from?

As for bets, I'd rather bet on...

Re: Disney ending live action catalog 4K Physical Media???

A handful of the Disney Afternoon era shows (including Rescue Rangers) are available in HD on iTunes, so that is definitely a plus. Star might be there too.

What really sucks though is that one...

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

I want to disclose that I worked at a local Amazon warehouse from November of last year to about February of this year. I had no real problems, and only quit because of the pandemic.

Re: IMDb is shutting down their message board

Necro reply, but I like to crosscheck people's filmography on both IMDB and Wikipedia. Plus, tons of people from the entertainment world don't have their own Wikipedia articles.

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All-Access) Animated Premieres 8/6/20

All true.

But R&M's humor has been compared to RedLetterMedia's, so I'm afraid I can't imagine a little irony if the RLM end up disliking Lower Decks.

Funny, at least one or two people on the...

Re: DC Comics Cuts Ties with Diamond

I hear Hank Kanalz might get laid off, what a shame. He has a pretty interesting history in comics.

He helped develop Youngblood with Rob Liefeld way back in the late 1980s.

Hell, he even...

Re: Disney ending live action catalog 4K Physical Media???

Hell, they supported that DIVX disc format or whatever instead of DVD at first.

I would hope that licensing Gravity Falls to Shout Factory would start a trend, but AFAIK that mostly happened...

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All-Access) Animated Premieres 8/6/20

May I ask what you think of Rick & Morty? Mind you, I can understand why would like R&M humor, but not want it in Trek (quite understandably, actually, and I say that as a huge R&M fan)?

Re: You ideal superhero team up (DC or Marvel) across TV and Film?

We've already had a few Spawn/Batman crossovers in comics, so maybe.

I wouldn't mind seeing the different movie versions of Marvel teaming up, Spider-Verse style: MCU, Tobey Maguire Spider-Man,...

Re: Favorite decade for sci-fi movies, 1950s or 60s?

Agree, though it of feels like Japanese sci-fi was the reverse of what you said.

Re: Should Arrow releases be in one separate thread? (Domestic or International)

Re: You ideal superhero team up (DC or Marvel) across TV and Film?

Could we count non-Marvel or DC heroes, like Hellboy or Spawn? What about movie superheroes that didn't start as comics, like Toxic Avenger?

Re: Favorite decade for sci-fi movies, 1950s or 60s?

I think the 1960s were better, at least for Japanese sci-fi: The original "Godzilla" codified the Kaiju subgenre in the 1950s, but films like the original "Mothra" and "Mothra vs. Godzilla" *...

Re: Do writers of bad movies think they are writing a good movie?

I wish I had Emma Frost's mutant powers so I could read people's minds and know for sure.

Until then, I think it depends, though I feel the vast majority of writers at least WANT to write good...

Re: Why The Orville is so great, and why it has a place on TV.

I probably count as more of a casual fan, both of Trek and Wars to be frank. But that's for another thread, I guess.

Re: How will you adjust your collecting habits in the changing media landscape?

I graduated from College back in 2014. Ever since then, I've lived with my parents and have only sporadically been employed (with some internships in between). And I'm running out of space.

I'm hoping against hope that Disney might sell off the rights to some of the less-franchisable entries in the Fox library, if only so they could make a quick buck to recover from their theme parks...

Re: Why The Orville is so great, and why it has a place on TV.

I don't even know if there are that many Trek newcomers who are fans of the Kurtzman era Trek.

I have seldom witness people even talk about the newer Trek shows except to say how bad they how.

Re: Animaniacs (Reboot) - Hulu - 11/20/20

Regrettably, the show's original creator and showrunner, Tom Ruegger, and several other major creative players, were not even asked to come back for this revival.

I do know that Paul Rugg (who was...
