Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 17th Annual DVDTalk Holiday Challenge (11/21 - 1/1)

Also, if you get MeTV in your area, tonight at 8 pm they are airing a 2-hour Christmas cartoon special.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 17th Annual DVDTalk Holiday Challenge (11/21 - 1/1)

British historian Lucy Worsley's docs are all great, and her 12 Days of Tudor Christmas is airing this week on my local PBS station, WETA (DC). Here's the promo:

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 17th Annual DVDTalk Holiday Challenge (11/21 - 1/1)

YouTube has a wealth of vintage Christmas shows, sometimes with commercials intact. I'm watching a Perry Como Christmas special and it's like a time machine back to 1985.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 17th Annual DVDTalk Holiday Challenge (11/21 - 1/1)

I'd swap out

--- Watch the MST3K version of a film/show.
--- Watch a film/show and its remake:
--- Watch a film/show based on or turned into a video game. -
--- Watch a film/show based on a...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I finished with 113 movies watched, 58 of them FTVs. Thanks to Chad and to all the participants (except for the Trump troll who needs to grow the hell up). I finished the Theme, Subset, and Checklist...

Re: "Slaxx" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

This was a lot better than I expected and I enjoyed the social satire skewering the shallow, fake commitment to social progress companies use to hide their unethical practices and so-called "fashion...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Iím going to wildcard Coco. Itís not horror, but it does take place on The Day of the Dead, and features a trip to the afterlife.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Hi neighbor! That "ISIS threat" messed with my family's plans, too. And not to get political, but I hope you and Trevor and all our NoVa peeps get out and vote on Tuesday if you haven't already.

Re: "Evil Dead II" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

Evil Dead II isn't a sequel; it's a remake with a higher budget and better production values. To be honest, I prefer the dark horror of the first film unalloyed by pratfalls and physical gags.

I...

Re: "Opera" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

I really wanted to like this, being a fan of opera and hoping for some stylish horror, but it just didn't work for me. For one thing, the heroine has been tied up and forced to watch people being...

Re: "Grave Robbers" (Ladrones de Tumbas) Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

There's a lot to like here, mostly the kills and the effects, but there was way too much screaming. Digging up a dead Satanist who starts killing teens is not exactly original, and the movie wore...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I hit #100 last night with KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. I was in high school when this aired back in 1978, and boy howdy, it has not aged well. The film's villain is Anthony Zerbe, best known...

Re: "The Untold Story" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

I can handle a certain amount of torture in films, but the gleeful sadism in this flick was far too much! The eye gouging with the spindle was bad but then the rape and then then killing the family?...

Re: "Body Bags" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

Yup. Body Bags is the pilot for a proposed horror anthology series on Showtime which never happened. John Carpenter isn't half bad as the horror host/ The Coroner. My favorite of the three stories is...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Favorite horror film: Rosemary's Baby
Worst horror film you've seen: So, so many. Demon Wind is up there as just pure crap.

Re: "The Gate" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

I enjoyed The Gate in the theater way back when and I still like it today. Yes, it's a movie aimed at kids, but it doesn't talk down to them and like Curse of the Demon, it succeeds because it takes...

Re: "Possessor" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

Chalk up one more scene in Sean Bean's death reel. Does that man ever survive a film?
I thought this movie would have worked better without some of the absurd plot devices. Performing brain surgery...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Amour is one of those films that I'm glad I saw but cannot bear to watch ever again.
