Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I'm entering the point in the challenge where I look at my unwatched pile and shake my head about how I'll never get around to seeing all the ones I puilled, some on their third year in queue.

I...

Re: "Mausoleum" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

I enjoyed Mausoleum with it's slow possession buildup and cheese effects; it has not aged well but is a captivating mix of campiness and menacing giving it a dreamlike quality.

Re: "A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Symbolism is lacking in some horror movies; the attempt to elevate the franchise beyond hacking and slashing is noble. Sometimes I worry that a plague on the genre is the 'need' to explain the...

Re: "A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

I respect that, it's not strictly 'no Christianity' it's that they took a sizzlingly unique premise and seemed to morph it into another Exorcist style Satanic/Demon trope. Personally I felt it was...

Re: "A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Dream Master is slickly produced and well staged but without some of the teasing buildup that make horror movie greats. My favorite kill are the ‘suck face’ math one or the cockroach weight lifted. ...

Re: The Mummy's Curse, The House That Screamed, Wes Craven's New Nightmare - 2019 Horror Challenge

House That Screamed is a slow movie that might not have a lot of rewatch value since part of it's impact depends on an ending reveal, not unlike many other slashers but with a lower body county. ...

Re: "Viy" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Viy was the subset film we needed after some of the others didn't turn out so well. Brilliantly strange blend of paranoia and irony forcing a seminary student through night after night of...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I think today is one of those days where I'm in a forgiving mood about movies.
Vidar the Vampire - reviews called it misogonistic and it is but also found it to have frank humor about sexuality and...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I think my three favorite werewolf movies are:
Ginger Snaps, American Werewolf in London, Silver Bullet

Quick... it's not too late for a last minute subset substitution; for the love of all things human.

Re: "The Prey" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

I am a victim of The Prey, forced to watch overly long camputs and images of ants or moths. I'm so glad I didn't attempt the 103 minute composite cut. I am most sorry for the suckers who blind...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I love Ginger Snaps, it's a brilliant film and I'm not sure if it's original to Ginger Snaps but ever since then it seems like 'feminine menstruation' werewolves has become a subgenre. It's a smart,...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Watching Larry Cohen films it's more obvious to me than ever how brazen many of his films are Gold Told Me To is the kind of blasphemy mild in sex/gore but that my parents would have disowned me for...

Re: "God Told Me To" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

I'd be curious about the development of God Told Me To. The opening scene is gripping and there is a cool oddball premise for the kills, which would seem to make a good hook, but then it gets really...

Re: "The Fury" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Best explosion ever.

The Fury has an admirable structure; it's a film about psychic Robin Sanza that does not feature the character of Robin very much outside an introduction and the end. It's...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I also especially liked Summer of 84; I went in thinking it was probably over hyped and mediocre but it has some smart twists and good tension ending up being one of my favorites so far this year. I...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

That's a good question, I had assumed that none of the anniversaries were precise dates and that relevant content could be viewed on any day - other than theme days.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

You can watch subset films any time. For theme nights you have to watch theme content on the prescribed day.

Re: "Final Exam" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

The shooting scene is great. It's interesting that Final Exam shows more violence in that prank, intended to be fake, than it does with many of the slashings.
I love the mysterious stranger...

Re: "One Cut of the Dead" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I think Night of Something Strange might be the most disappointing horror film I've seen in a long time. I cannot tell if that's because it looked promising to me and was horrible; or if it was just...
