Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Well, if they like Mario Kart there's Sonic Racing and Crash Team Racing. Also, Dragon's Quest Builders is obviously inspired by Minecraft.

Re: Training Day prequel in the works

Jay Pharoah, right? ;)

They should just do a sequel with Hawke training a rookie.

Re: Oscar winners who never amounted to much?

He just won in 2017, so it's too soon to call. He has done a few indie films since, including one he directed that was released this year.

Re: Fictional films that make for good primers

What's interesting about that one is that the characters in the film watch Wall Street, apparently viewing it as a primer for what they are doing.

Ferris Bueller is a primer on skipping school....

Re: Video games that were released late in a console's life and didn't get the recognition they deserved?

Vectorman and Ristar (Genesis) were released in 1995, and seem to be overlooked as all eyes were on the upcoming PlayStation and Saturn. Although Vectorman did get a sequel a year later.

Re: Do you miss/wonder about directors that kinda faded into obscurity?

I wonder what happened with Mark Romanek. He showed a lot of promise in One Hour Photo, and I thought he could be another David Fincher, transitioning from music videos to a successful film career....

Re: What movie do you credit as kickstarting the superhero genre? (not necessarily a Marvel thread)

I guess I'm going with Iron Man. Not only did it start the whole MCU thing, but it showed that something other than the most popular characters could be successful (I would include Batman, Superman,...

Re: Who do you think would be a good host for Saturday Night Live?

I'd love to see Olivia Colman host (although she's not really unknown to the US now).

Re: Merrily We Roll Along (D: Linklater) S: Ben Platt, Beanie Feldstein -- 20 year project

Well, Linklater will be 79. Maybe there will be some contingency plan in case he can't finish it, like how Paul Thomas Anderson backed up Robert Altman for A Prairie Home Companion. Perhaps Damien...

Re: Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King 10/29/19 (PS4, XB1, Switch)

Maybe they're not showing us enough yet, but those games really don't appear to be "remastered."

Re: Games that Redeemed themselves

I think it was covered by the gaming magazines at the time, that Sega knew they had screwed up and wanted to make up for it. But being an early Saturn game, it didn't affect a huge number of people.

Re: Games that Redeemed themselves

Not sure if this counts, but the port of Virtua Fighter for the Saturn sucked to the point where Sega redid the game as a "remix" edition and sent it for free to registered owners of the console.

Re: Out of the Blue (Dennis Hopper, 1980) Kickstarter

I think it was the other way around; the film decided to use the song and the title. Young recorded it in 1978 and had played it at least a year prior to that.

Re: If introducing someone to a Director, which films would you start with??

You know, with the Coen brothers I'd just go with their first film Blood Simple. I didn't see it until after seeing several of their other films, and I was struck by how much of their style was there...

Re: If Trying To Introduce Someone To A Band Which Album Would You Choose?

I think it's okay if it's someone more known for being a singles artist - Elvis, for instance.

For the Beatles, I'd go with the compilation of the singles from the mono box (or Past Masters if...

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I think it's more disappointing than surprising. Sure, if it weren't for the Traveling Wilburys, I wouldn't have been able to pick Bob Dylan out of a lineup as a kid in the 80s. But with the...

Re: Max Wright (Willie Tanner on ALF) dead at 75

This is another example of how people appeared older back then. On the show, he looked like what we would think someone in his 50s would look like now. But he was only 43 when it premiered. That's...

Re: Sexual Harassment/Assault in Hollywood -- Discussion

I get what you mean. I call that a "franchise star" - someone who is vital to a franchise and will be highly paid for playing that role, but not necessarily for other roles. Take Robert Downey Jr....

Re: Video games with the best opening scenes?

If it's substantial enough to count, I'd say it's Donkey Kong climbing the ladder and jumping on the beam to reshape the level.

Re: Most Overrated Actor/Actress?

Is he really overrated though? He's done a lot of stuff, including writing and producing. But he's not a big box office draw and he doesn't seem to be loved by critics. The only major award...

Re: People who would not be immortalized or considered legends if they did not die early?

The ship would be forgotten, but the actors were becoming respectable before Titanic; both of them had already been nominated for an Oscar. Of course it raised their profile considerably, but they...
