Re: DC's Doom Patrol (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 2/15/19

It's rumored the budget for Doom Patrol is something like $20 million. A big-budget movie like Wonder Woman can end up running hundreds of millions after marketing costs. The level of risk is not...

Re: ESPN: Tim Donaghy fixed NBA games

I have a bridge in New York to sell you, if you believe Donaghy is the only NBA ref that was ever fixing games. People just don't remember how bad of a place the NBA was in before Magic/Bird/Jordan...

Re: MLB 2018 - 2019 Off-Season & Hot Stove Thread

It's mostly the Rays pushing the opener because they only had 2 legitimate starting pitchers last season. A bullpen guy would open the game for one inning, facing the top of the order. Then a nominal...

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

The alliance with Apple does seem to be driving some of this decision. Apple has been very hostile to physical media for over a decade. All new Samsung displays have some of the most intrusive...

Re: Nightflyers (SyFy) -- based George R.R. Martin novella -- premieres 12/2/18

The producers made some very questionable casting decisions and the first few episodes had many script problems. I think the basic concept had a good season or two in it, but not with these...

Re: Most attractive person on TV?

Dana should have gotten to play Lois Lane on the screen. It's her voice I hear when I think of the ideal Lois Lane. She was utterly perfect voicing Lois on Superman: The Animated Series.

Re: Batwoman TV Series In Works At the CW -- Arrowverse

I hate admitting it but you are likely correct. It's pretty clear to me the DC shows are fast becoming schedule filler for the CW and more a vehicle for that network's values. Even as the ratings...

Re: Recommend 70's or 80's DC Superhero Titles...

Thousands and thousands of comics later, I believe those may be the most readable extended runs in comics history. They are fun, fun, fun if you have even a passing familiarity with the Justice...

Re: MLB 2018 - 2019 Off-Season & Hot Stove Thread

It does have a huge effect on the gambling industry. I expect that Vegas is heavily considered for the next expansion team.

Re: MLB 2018 - 2019 Off-Season & Hot Stove Thread

I largely agree. Every team now has gamed out the perfect baseball management strategy, from hitters to pitcher management. None of the changes they've wrought have made the game more fun or...

Re: Ransom (CBS) -- From EP Frank Spotnitz -- Series Thread -- Premieres 1/1/17

I watched off and on during the second season, but this really isn't must-see television. It's a disposable procedural with a few recurring, and mostly lame, elements.

Re: MLB 2018 - 2019 Off-Season & Hot Stove Thread

Manfred seems to have gotten some sort of mandate to transform baseball during his tenure. While Bud had his problems, he rarely altered on-field play or deviated from standard baseball tradition....

Re: Recommend 70's or 80's DC Superhero Titles...

An underrated Batman artist from the same period is Michael Golden. He's rarely mentioned but I always liked his stuff.

Re: want to sell off a lot of dvd

You can cherrypick the handful of truly rare and valuable DVDs for individual sale, but put the rest of them up in a giant lot on eBay. That is likely the optimal path for most gain with the least...

Re: Supergirl (S4E12) -- "Menagerie" -- 2/17/19

Actresses often have final approval or a big say over who gets cast for their love interests.

Re: Temptation Island --- Discussion Thread

I would wager that is something done at the behest of the cable network's standards and practices.

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

Samsung is actually the number one seller of tv displays at the moment, which is why dropping player support comes at an odd time. Their players never had as big a share, but it's still troubling....

Re: DC partners with Walmart

I just picked up three of the #7 issues and couldn't even find Titans. Distribution in the locations I've been visiting recently have been very spotty after Christmas.

Re: Samsung exiting Blu-ray Player Market

4K UHDs aren't a scam, but there are clearly internal factions within Hollywood that want to stab physical media in the back and shift all consumers to SVOD as soon as possible. They are doing...

Re: The Flash (S5E14) -- "Cause and XS" -- 2/12/19

Watch XS flail her arms when she's supposedly "running" at superspeed. It's one of the goofiest things on tv at the moment.

Re: TV shows you are surprised do not have a cult following

A funny, funny show ahead of its time. Released before social media, that show would be more popular today.

Re: NBC's Elvis All-Star Tribute -- 2/17/19

This special clearly isn't made for long-time Elvis fans. I own the King's entire recorded output and this list of performers isn't enticing in the least. The first time John Legend heard an Elvis...
