Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Yeah, based on what I've seen, I treat it like an odds type deal. Risks seem to be distance and time spent near someone that is infected. So...

Bad odds are more people (more chance someone has...

Re: The Politics of Electric Vehicles

I don't think it does. I was just talking with a guy at work on Skype about charging spots at my work, and he says he has trouble doing 100 miles both ways in his older Chevy Bolt when running the...

Re: The Politics of Electric Vehicles

The modern electrics with 250+ range would be fine like 99% of the time.

The 220v install though..that sucks. Part of why I haven't gone electric is that I am renting, still. I could probably get...

Re: The Politics of Electric Vehicles

A full electric has 200-300 miles of range. Why would you need to charge at work? I planned on charging at home every night. With 250 miles of range, that means I could even miss a night by...

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

I'm a huge B5 fan (my favorite show) which is why I remembered your username.

My wife's dad is a sociopathic narcissist like Trump. She's been telling me for quite some time that Trump would go...

Re: The Politics of Electric Vehicles

The "getting going" costs are the reasons Democrats passed the $7500 tax credit. I don't think a tax credit is the best way to do this - people struggling don't have the luxury of paying now and...

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

I hate to divert us any more on this, but this is exactly the situation I'm in. We are the PRIME candidates for going to EV. I promise relevancy to the topic at hand by the end of this post. I'll...

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

It'll be good to see Trump gone. I was more worried about Republicans backing Trump when he inevitably refused to admit he lost, but most of them apparently sorta believe in Democracy, and aren't...

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

Seems like they have the votes to win at least Pennsylvania. And Nevada is probably a win too. So, it is mostly a waiting game. Sigh.

The longer this takes the more traction Trump will have with...

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion - RBG RIP, ACB in

I liked Hillary because she seemed like a real policy geek. I like smart, competent, experienced people in charge. Don't care about likeability or charisma. In fact, I think I probably mistrust it...

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion - RBG RIP, ACB in

It's hard to tell if that is really the case. I have a couple of conservative-leaning friends that couldn't stand Trump (because anyone with half a brain could see he was an idiot and a huge asshole)...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Yeah, we've had a semi-official 1-day-a-week policy for years now. Since I drive ~55 miles to work, it was nice to get back 2-2.5 hours of driving time the other 4 days a week.

Didn't even mind...

Re: The Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

2016's polls were mostly fine, Trump just beat the odds.

What I worry about this year is that Trumpers that don't believe in the virus will go vote, and some of us rational people won't go vote...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

My take on this as a history geek is that a majority of people, for some godforsaken reason, crave a strong, tough leader, and fear the Other (here, that would be mostly Black and LGBTQ people, but...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

This, exactly.

I too thought Bernie was a wiser choice given his anti-NAFTA/free trade sentiments, and slightly pro-gun history. He did beat Hillary here in MI in 2016. I thought this time,...

I've settled for just not using it more than once a week or so at this point. I really need to contain it to a secondary browser though for anti-tracking / data scraping purposes, just haven't...

Re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

Don't have to just trust the CDC. We still have independent journalism in this country.

I'm trusting that there will be lots of journalism to analyze anything produced by big pharma for this....

Re: The Truth Is Paywalled But The Lies Are Free | Current Affairs piece worth reading

Good topic.

I scraped around for someone to pay for solid news given COVID in February, and scraped around for a deal, ended up going with NYT for $8/mo. I've literally never paid for a...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

As a history geek...it isn't too surprising. Although I thought America had a stronger tradition of Democracy, I'm not too surprised to see it is less solid than I thought.

A lot of people crave...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

Realistically you have to go to eBay for this kind of stuff. It is just marked up too much on Amazon (via third party sellers) Better off waiting 2-5 days for a 1st class USPS shipment from eBay most...
