Re: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

Agree. It started out as pretty centrist and very funny to very left snarky and depressing.

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E04) - “Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm” - 1/19/22

Wow I thought this was the worst one yet. Did not find it engaging almost at all outside of the Jennifer Beals scene. I also don't find Fett and interesting character in general and never have. I...

Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

Just watched this. Very effective and sad but glad I saw it. The restaurant scene was brilliant.

Re: The Cleaning Lady (FOX) -- S: Elodie Yung -- Premieres 1/3/22

Maybe I am a terrible TV watcher but sometimes I don't mind watching a show that isn't groundbreaking and different, but sort of derivative and predictable IF it is done well. I mean we rewatch TV...

Re: Lord of the Rings series coming to Amazon

Yeah I assumed it was Galadriel too. Maybe I am alone, but I always thought it would be neat if the prologue had Galadriel sitting in like a modern pub in present times talking to someone about the...

Re: Lord of the Rings series coming to Amazon

It's 8 episodes now, not 20 as it was originally announced but like 12 hours of content.

Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE

You forgot the Daily Double of genital gangrene. As side effects go those are a complete no-go for me.

Re: The Righteous Gemstones (HBO) S: McBride, Goodman, Devine, Patterson -- premieres 8/18/19

Yeah not as good of an episode. The bodybuilder group thing is not really working. Unless I missed it it was sort of interesting that Eli did not outright deny her daughters accusations. I love how...

Re: Yellowjackets (Showtime) - S: Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey

Here are some of my thoughts:

The shrine dog head thing is not Taissa but her son

It was obvious from the beginning that there would be survivors that are not known

Lottie cult thing come...

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- The 6th and Final season -- Premieres 12/10/21

Interesting. They have done some great battles but I thought this one was confusing and sort of lame. I do like the realism a lot but the last couple seasons have been really poor in my opinion.

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- The 6th and Final season -- Premieres 12/10/21

Pretty underwhelming. They clearly plan on shopping the series again or maybe making some additional movies or something. I am SOOOO tired of consoles exploding in sparks when the hull is hit. It's...

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

I actually liked this one the most of all and I actually appreciated a splash of color. The chase was a bit silly but it was supposed to be, it was a bunch of kids on slow speeders chasing a nerd.

Re: Best series’ in the 21st century?

I find the discussion of streaming versus network interesting because I suspect what we will see more and more of are shows going back to being released weekly sometimes with a 2-3 episode starter....

Re: Euphoria (HBO) -- S: Zendaya -- premieres 6/16/19

It is very good, but not an easy watch sometimes. It is NC-17 adult.

Re: Euphoria (HBO) -- S: Zendaya -- premieres 6/16/19

Good to see a quality family friendly show back on television.....

Crazy episode much darker than the first season, but very engrossing.

Zendaya does a great job of acting like she is...

Re: 1883 - A Yellowstone Origin Story (Paramount +) - from EP Taylor Sheridan - premieres 12/19/21

Ahh misunderstood what he said. I thought it was a semi brilliant idea to be honest. Still the writing has been excellent

Re: 1883 - A Yellowstone Origin Story (Paramount +) - from EP Taylor Sheridan - premieres 12/19/21

I think this is a better series than Yellowstone itself. I am not a huge fan of McGraw and Hill but they are fine but sort of seem like Mary Sues. I would like them to be just a little less perfect....

Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE

That would be a good thing. I don't think a 1 min ad pushing medicine should really be allowed. Just seems dangerous and unnecessary. Obviously it leads to more sales, but drugs should be based on...

Re: The Wheel of Time (Amazon) -- premieres 11/19/21

When they got to the Waygate outside of Matt not going they could have adhered pretty closely to the book for the ending. But they just changed so many things. I really enjoyed the show up to the...

Re: Yellowjackets (Showtime) - S: Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey

Except they already shared that, so if it is the only "shocker" it would be way disappointing. Show needs to have several WTF? moments I think to keep momentum

Re: Yellowjackets (Showtime) - S: Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey

Yeah I said it was out there. In the real world there is this phenomenon called Genetic Sexual Attraction where children or parents who first meet as adults are attracted to each other. Sort of...

Re: The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix) -- Kristen Bell - 1/28

I'm in.

Funny thing is I just saw Rear Window again and while I get it being parodied in general, Rear Window is just such an incredibly effective engaging movie that holds up amazingly well.
