Re: How messed up was "Starship Troopers" tonight on FOX?Anybody watch the whole movie?

Yeah you missed it by 18 years, but I'm sure your local video store would have it on tape if you need it. :D

I'm with you there on the funky science. The Expanse does this too with Epstein...

Re: How messed up was "Starship Troopers" tonight on FOX?Anybody watch the whole movie?

For anyone who strives to find deeper meaning in Science Fiction, you could do worse than Starship Troopers, though the book is very different from the movie. Both great in their own way.

If you...

Re: How messed up was "Starship Troopers" tonight on FOX?Anybody watch the whole movie?

I am replying to this thread from 2001 just to state: this is one of the most underrated movies ever made.

But more importantly, the book is one of the most prescient, exciting, and depressing...

Re: HBO orders Watchmen series from Damon Lindelof

First "The Boys" and now this. I may have to reevaluate my "I hate stupid shows based on stupid comic books" position.

And yes, a college roommate loaned me "Watchmen", I did read it, and I still...

Re: The Mandalorian -- Star Wars live-action series coming to Disney streaming

After looking up "tilt-shift" on Wikipedia, I can definitively answer "I have no idea."

I had one of the first Micro Four-Thirds cameras around 10 years ago, and it had a mode like that. I think...

Re: The Mandalorian -- Star Wars live-action series coming to Disney streaming

Wasn't really talking about the delivery mechanism, which of course is easier these days.

I just prefer the older non-CGI stuff in general. Star Wars, 2001, Solyaris, etc. Not that there isn't...

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 3 Thread -- premieres 4/11/18

On re-watch, and having read every Corey book, opinion is the same: Most underrated scifi show since BSG.

Re: The Mandalorian -- Star Wars live-action series coming to Disney streaming

I want 1977 Star Wars back...

Saw it in the theater. Things were simpler then. :(

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 2 Thread -- premieres 6/19/19

Quite a finale. I had a quibble with the way Kacy's wife went to full-on "kill them all" mode, just like Mrs. Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (there's a 25 year old reference for you older guys), but you...

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 2 Thread -- premieres 6/19/19

For sure...completely unbelievable - it was like a high school drama parable about you know racism sucks or something, man.

Having said that, it was one of the few real slip-ups in the show, IMO,...

Re: The Boys (Amazon) C: Rogen, Goldberg, Kripke -- based on the comic -- S: Karl Urban -- premieres 7/26

Between the wooden Banshee guy, and completely over the top The Boys guy, IMO Antony Starr is one of the most underrated actors working.

Though Banshee is one of my favorite shows, it wasn't...

Re: City on a Hill (Showtime) - S: Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge -- EP: Affleck, Damon -- Premieres 6/16/19

Watching e6 now and really enjoying it. It's got a fairly complex plot and lots of characters, so it's up my alley.

Re: The Boys (Amazon) C: Rogen, Goldberg, Kripke -- based on the comic -- S: Karl Urban -- premieres 7/26

I'm 30 minutes in to the first episode and this show makes me laugh like a little girl.

(Like, squealing with delight, and I can't stand superhero movies.)

Re: Jett (Cinemax) -- produced by and starring Carla Gugino -- premieres 6/14/19

OMG...Gugino wasn't even in this ep much in the first half, and it's still awesome.

Re: Jett (Cinemax) -- produced by and starring Carla Gugino -- premieres 6/14/19

Well then, ep 6 took a turn for the weird, disjointed, and stupid. Still enjoying the show, but they're making me work for it. :D

Re: neXT (FOX) -- S: John Slattery -- From the Producer of 24 -- Coming in 2020

Hopefully they've upped their technobabble game from the 24 days of "They're hacking our subnets! Load the configurations matrix grid system! Our protocol is inverted!"

Re: Perpetual Grace Ltd (EPIX) -- S: Jimmi Simpson, Ben Kingsley, Jacki Weaver, Luis Guzman

This is a great show, IF you can deal with a very slow roll.

I thought this seemed almost exactly like "Patriot", which makes sense now that I see it shares writers and directors. At least three...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All-Access) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 1/17/19

Absolutely. Burnham is just cringe-worthy compared to Pike. She's got like two facial expressions, and the character's just not interesting.

It's the difference between watching a mediocre actor...

Re: Deep State (EPIX) -- S: Mark Strong - International Spy Thriller - Premieres 6/17/18

Just finished season 2. Freaking awful. I think it was an all-British cast, because the "American" accents on the Senator, her aide, and some of the others were so terrible it took the viewer...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All-Access) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 1/17/19

If you like long monologues right after everyone says "get it done fast! we're out of time!" then this show is for you.

Freakin' Burnam with her birdsuit, talking endlessly about stuff with her...

Re: Jett (Cinemax) -- produced by and starring Carla Gugino -- premieres 6/14/19

Agree with you there - it's a fun caper show, and Gugino is gorgeous. It's no Banshee, but it's good enough to stay with it.

Pretty brutal prison stuff in ep. 3.
