Re: The Official Former President Trump Thread

And yet you've just made a giant leap there by implying that Biden should have foreseen those consequences. Why, when the vast majority of other legislators, including most Black legislators, did not...

Re: The Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

I think this is very close to the truth, the key point being that he was absolutely determined NOT to just repeat what someone told him to say, just to be a stubborn child about it. So that's how he...

Re: The Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

Not that I would ever want to defend the actions of that piece of garbage, but there's a fair argument to be made (and even Justice Sotomayor made such an argument) that firing squads are probably...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Reading through the first chapter... seems pretty clear and engaging.

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Yeah, I would think the same about New Mexico... but polling oversights got us into some trouble last time. Makes me nervous.

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Thanks... I'll check it out!

P.S. When I went back to Wisconsin a couple years ago, it was for a class reunion. One of the guys in my class had actually worked for Russ Feingold when he was a...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Unless I'm missing something, the good news about those state polls is that Biden could lose Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, AND Nevada, and STILL win by taking the...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

This is the story of all of rural America, and because rural voters have vastly disproportionate voting power compared to urban voters, it will remain a pernicious problem.

I do have some sympathy...

Re: The Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

I mean, clearly she's at least half at fault. It's not like she led the House to pass a second $3 trillion stimulus deal back in May, which Senate Republicans then ignored for several months. And...

I don't know what's happened here, but I can't help feeling like it was necessary, and I strongly approve.

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Looking at those polls, Wisconsin and Michigan do look somewhat safely Biden (at the moment), while Pennsylvania still looks iffy. Adding up electors, Biden could lose Pennsylvania and other toss-ups...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

I saw Chuck Woolery at WalMart once. He had a luxury lakeside home in the Texas county where I lived. The county is sharply divided economically--mostly a bunch of super-rich a-holes and super-poor...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

If someone is posting relevant news articles or official presidential statements, they ARE bringing something to the table. To insist that they then also have an enlightened stance on that material...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

The only sensible thing to do is place all senior citizens in vacuum chambers for their own protection. It should be safe to let them out on, oh, I don't know... let's say November 4th.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

Not to dwell on this, but I'm definitely aware of criticism of Heart of Darkness, most vocally by Chinua Achebe (and not really all that recent). The issue is that the narrator is most certainly...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

I have my serious doubts about large numbers of conservatives (or anyone else) ever having read The Heart of Darkness all the way through despite its short length, but if they did, I'm pretty sure...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

The intent isn't to pretend it's real, any more than Alec Baldwin is trying to fool people into thinking he's actually Trump. Democrats have already been pointing to the actual words that come out of...

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

I wouldn't mind seeing a Democratic PAC do something like this with a Trump impersonator for the second part. He's going to scream that everything is fake anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3
