Re: Blu-Ray players - Current recommendations

Thanks for the info. I would almost need to see them both side-by-side with the same UHD film playing, on my set to make a fair comparison. And, of course some films make better use of HDR than...

Re: Blu-Ray players - Current recommendations

Considering getting a Panasonic UB-420 4k player before they're out of production. Seems to be one of the only reasonably-priced UHD standalone players still made. A good price on one of these is...

Re: Runaway . still a good movie but it can get pretty scary

RUNAWAY is a *great* film, one my my favorite sci-fi (well, sort of science-fact now) films. I used to watch it all the time on cable back in the '80s. Saw it in the theatre, and it looked like the...

Re: UHD release announcements

Yuck... Have we lost all hope in the proper, color-appropriate restorations of classic catalogue titles? Why "upgrade" to 4k or 8k when you're just going to get 'remastered' garbage like these...

Re: UHD release announcements

I couldn't care less about the cover artwork, or the extras of these UHD releases.

What matters 100% is that the transfers be exceptional, high-bitrate outstanding encodes from the films' OCN....

Re: Amazon adds 5 percent fuel and inflation surcharge to US sellers

Those are bullshit reasons, of course. Amazon's raising prices because it can -- and will get away with it. Just means prices will go up across the board as those retailers rush to "recoup" Amazon's...

Re: Director Wolfgang Petersen dead at 81

Das Boot and Enemy Mine were two of his best films. He was a very good director. His films certainly ran the gamut of genres.

Re: Safeway and Albertsons and affiliated stores deals

The bullshit which grocery stores impose, and the complicated hoops to go through in order to get any good deals are absurd.

This type of garbage keeps them firmly in control, and "deals" can be...

Re: Pac-Man: The Movie

Ridiculous, and 42 years too late! The movie will be total garbage, of course.

Let's all contunue to play the legendary 42-year-old coin-op game instead. It'll be time much, much better spent....

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

^ Perhaps your terrible experience will convince you to finally cut the Amazon cord. I'm serious. They don't care and can't explain simple things, and haven't been able to do so for a decade now...

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

Sure, I'd be totally deluded to not realize that surely 90%, probably 95% of all titles ever released to physical media are essentially worthless now. These are the "commons" of the world, the...

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

I love (vintage) films, am proud of my collection, and could talk for hours about the films I love and admire. But, I don't, because I know nobody cares, and I've got much better things to do with my...

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

Just want to say: you're very lucky to live so far out in the boonies. Peace and quiet, plenty of space. Man, I'd kill to have a 1700-ft driveway / private road as it seems you're indeed fortunate to...

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

I remember very well, as recently as 2008-09 , it cost only $1.42 to ship a one-pound package Media Mail rate to any ZIP in the country!

So, postage rates are, indeed rising much, much faster...

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

Your situation and experience selling cult titles basically 'proves' that those titles will always be held in high stead by collectors, especially when they go OOP and aren't available in the same...

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

That's true enough, if we stick to the letter of the law. However, I was more so making the potent point that the physical media should be yours for *private use* (ie, your own use) for perpetuiity....

Re: Hard Talk - Letís discuss getting rid of physical media

In my opinion, dumping your physical media collection right now would be a very foolish thing to do. At this point, the pinnacle of the format has been reached. Many of these titles will never be...

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

Hell, I don't know about you, but my time and frustration at this type of bullshit is worth more than $10 per hour. He should be given a minimum of a $50 credit for all the kaka and incompetence he...

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

Good for you for not just acquiescing to all the bullshit. The last 2 to 3 years have been brutal. I've stopped nearly all online buying for this reason. I'd never filed any chargebacks before 2019....

Re: The ongoing "TV size wars"

Yes, we've got to have some expensive tech to fill the vaulted walls of our McMansions, so let's go extreme with a 146" screen.

At that size, one should just go with front projection, assuming the...

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

Re: Blu Ray Rot

All of this technical information on which plants have already closed down is very disturbing, as it "proves" the nails are already on the coffin of pressed-disc releases. It seems like there are...
