Re: Interview attire

I rarely think about it that way. The question I try to answer is, "After a reasonable ramp-up time, will this person make my job easier or harder?" That includes easy to work with, intelligent,...

Re: Interview attire

I've interviewed hundreds of people for various professional positions. A thank you has never had an impact. Frankly, I don't even read them. And those sent snail mail invariably arrive after the...

Bit of blaming the victim, there.

Re: Facial Hair at a Job Interview?

As someone who has interviewed hundreds of people for professional consulting positions, a well-groomed beard is fine. A "mountain man" look is not.

Re: Board Games

Dreadball and DeadZone, by the same company and designer as Dungeon Saga, are a lot of fun and have solid rules. Could use some faction balance tweaks, but we've had a blast.

Zombicide fell flat...

Re: LeVar Burton using Kickstarter to bring back 'Reading Rainbow'

It's not like he hasn't put his own money into it. After all, he bought the rights and funded the development of the application. I appreciate his work on Reading Rainbow from my own childhood that...

Re: Volkswagen workers reject United Auto Workers

What bothers me is that VW can't establish a "workers council" (whatever that is) without a union due to labor laws. WTF?

Re: Amanda Knox/ Italian Murder Case

Is there any evidence beyond her confession? Is there any evidence that collaborates her confession?

Are you arguing that being put in a jail cell as a murder suspect in a foreign country isn't...

Re: Amanda Knox/ Italian Murder Case

Agreed, but I don't consider it substantive evidence she committed the crime. I haven't heard of any evidence in this case, which I why I'm curious why Jeremy517 thinks she did it.

Re: Amanda Knox/ Italian Murder Case

False confessions are quite common, especially when one is under duress for extended periods. There is plenty of documented evidence and studies showing this. And that's for interrogations in the...

What evidence is there that she did it or was present at the time?

re: Broken Age - New Double Fine Adventure Game Project on Kickstarter

I've since played a lot more of it, finishing Shay's side and getting what I assume is fairly far in Vella's. Vella's story is far superior to Shay's, so that's good. It still lacks enough story...

Re: Is a resume writing service worth it?

The chances of me letting someone else submit my resume without me ever having seen it are less than zero.

Resume services can be good or irrelevant. If you don't write well, or have minimal...

re: Broken Age - New Double Fine Adventure Game Project on Kickstarter

I just started Shay's side. WTF? I've only played the first few minutes or so, but this is what has taken so long? I'll give it a go, but so far I am not impressed.

I realize I'm not far...

Re: Remember the gal that sued McDonald's over the hot coffee? She did deserve the mo

There is a difference between the temperature at which the coffee is brewed and that at which it is served.

Re: Anyone have a "tankless" water heater?

If you're going from a gas tank to tankless, be aware that you may need larger supply and exhaust lines than what you already have, upping the cost a bit. That bit a friend of mine who was upgrading.

Re: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

The judge is going to get slapped down. There's no question. Although I agree with the end result, the reasoning expressed in the opinion is borderline silly.

I just got my copy of Ogre on Thursday. Haven't opened it yet, but it is HUGE. Have to find a place to store it.

Re: Board Games

I can't get over the price point on Run, Fight, or Die. The minis seem superfluous. Currently, the only kickstarter I'm in on is Mars Attacks. I like the communication from the publishers, and one...

Re: Board Games

Frankly, I think it's garbage. There are no meaningful decisions, it's boring as hell multiplayer, virtually unplayable with more than 2, and the level advancement is not balanced. Zombie Dice has...

Re: Video Game Developer pulls negative review of their game as "copyright infringeme

Re: Board Games

I'm more selective on what I kickstart than I used to be, since the games are often available more cheaply when they are produced. Lots of minis games now.

Re: How Much Longer Will the Government Shutdown Last? ( "place your bets" :-)))

The waiting period is 1 week for DC. So I got one week of unemployment, which I will be required to repay since the deal included back pay for the furlough time.

Re: Government shut down stories

On further thought, Feds in a union (I am not) may have a contract. But the various laws at play here trump all of those contracts.
