Re: Louie (Louis CK) -- "Dr. Ben/Nick" -- 07/06/10

musicfann is probably just trying to troll. But I'll bite.

Its doubtful Louis CK will die of an overdose as the man doesnt even drink. He's actually a family man and professional (in addition to...

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part VI

Its kind of strange. I see a lot of people saying this was the best UFC event since 100, but I thought it was just okay.

George Popadoplis :) had a good win but still showed he's got kinks that...

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part VI

The first fight had a lot of that but Fedor was also much calmer and cautious. Early, when he does first get Nog down, he didn't think he had Nog hurt like he assumed Werdum was. Had he incorrectly...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

I love the idea of Susan's return. But, I hope to God she's not River as the character is not like Susan was in even the slightest. People change, sure, but that would be some serious revisionism of...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

As for River, first, it was savvy of Moffat to create her. Whether this was conscious or not, creating a character with an invested history/power/mystery in a show is keen writer's insurance to get a...

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part VI

While he did it in a different era and in promotions that lobbed him softballs (several), Fedor's resume is still a good one for both its time and for heavyweight MMA. In such a suspect division, it...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

The rush and babble of the finale was a bit much. There were some good moments llike the rewind, slowdown bit with the Doc and the Amy's, but overall it felt like a scifi cram session. One rusty...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Well, I kinda' figured the ending to part one early in the episode. Just guessed maybe the prison contains, or will contain, the Doc? and once all the baddies showed up, it made sense.

Regards to...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Liked the episode as well. Turned out much better than the previews indicated. The Doc's "I know evil when I see it," remark and the beastie's intentions and end didn't quite jibe, but the rest of it...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

I like that Moffat has largely ditched the soapy dramatics that Davies imbued Who with. There is less overt cheap comic relief supporting characters and no more weepy unrequited romance angles...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Wait a minute. I think you guys are confusing a good ending with a good episode. Yeah, the end was great but the bulk of "Cold Blood" was pretty awful.

While we all know the Doc will make it out...

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Hilarious, the ol' "blame the audience" routine. Yep, people should just watch tv blindly never asking for answers to questions a show raises. Stupid, stupid, people. If the argument is that all that...

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Well, again, to me that makes no sense. How can you find meaning to your life if you choose to forget the key moments of your existence, your love and growth, the things they found on or after the...

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Well, how about this? You go through a learning experience, adventure, bond with people, fall in love, become a better person, even live a good life- THEN YOU APPARENTLY FORGET ALL OF THAT WHEN YOU...

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Man, I'm going to be so pissed if when I die I'm not allowed to move on to the afterlife unless I go gallivanting around Giant Magic Dookie Island.

Back in season three, I thought Lost was...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Well, its a nagging, lazy writing problem, this idea that action = quickness. Same category as always having NuWho characters run to and fro. In b-movie terms, I guess you'd call it, the Countdown...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Wow. "The Hungry Earth" was great.

Okay, the, "We've only got 9 1/2 minutes...," then they do one hours worth of work montage logic gap was dumb, but the rest was solid stuff.

As a first half...

Re: The Office -- Season Finale -- "Whistle Blower" -- 05/20/10

Hmmnnn, guess I'm in the minority. I thought it was great precisely because it was quick and furious with jokes and momentum. I mean, that's what we want out of a comedy show, right? Much rather...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

What? Aside from that shot, the Doc pretty much explained in gobbledygook detail who "The Dream Lord" was. That was the only problem with the ep (well, aside from "Amy's Choice" being a lame title)....

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Agreed. Setting was great but instead of soaking in the atmosphere and making a horrorish ep, it was more of the same run-and-blab business. I mean, the Doc was in a cavern with a torch and besieged...

Really? To me, he was different but only slightly so. More smiley and spazzy, sure. I'll grant, the one season run of Eccleston necessitated that there not be a huge change-up in personality like the...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Well, I think Smith said that they were treating the season like the Doc was a newborn lamb finding his legs and he really didn't feel totally comfortable until the final eps. We'll see. I still...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Yeah, agreed. I was hoping for at least a smoother, smarter run, but the scripts still seem to need, IMO, another rewrite or two. Maybe its a first year thing, getting used to the job and the...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Yeah, I too thought the ep was okay. I dont think the whole bit where Amy had to pretend she could see made sense. Okay the Angels were distracted? So this supposedly badass alien race who can...

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Yeah, I remember that, but I bought the dynamic, the contrast of Tom Baker's oddball Doc and Romana's preen. Here it just served to make him look dumb and River look farty-superior.

Yeah,...
